It's lightweight, easy to haul to the darker skies found outside city limits, and requires no tools to set up. For celestial and "earthbound" observation on a dime, the Celestron AstroMaster outshines the rest! Celestron’s AstroMaster 70 EQ combines the solid optical performance of a classic achromatic refractor with a German style equatorial mount. The Astromaster 70 features easy no-tool setup and much better optics than 60mm beginner scopes. The Astromaster package includes high and low power eyepieces, a correct image diagonal prism, illustrated instructions, and planetarium software for your PC. The AstroMaster 70 EQ features very good optical performance. Achromatic refractors have a two piece objective lens, the second lens element compensates for “chromatic aberration”, the false color or blue fringes seen in low cost telescopes. In daylight tests I see very little blue fringing with the standard equipment 10mm eyepiece (90X magnification), and none at all with the 20mm eyepiece (45X). Stars and planets show up very nicely with the AstroMaster 70. The bright double star Castor, one of the “twins” in the constellation Gemini, is cleanly split at 90X with the 10mm eyepiece. When I tried an optional 6mm Plossl eyepiece for a magnification of 150X, I was treated to lovely views of Saturn’s rings and the little orange disk of Mars. My view of the Moon was delightfully crisp and clear; the 20mm eyepiece nicely frames the Lunar disk, and using the 10mm eyepiece I could easily see mountain peaks and terraced walls inside the crater Copernicus. The AstroMaster 70 EQ also features a newly designed tripod with 1.25 inch stainless steel legs. This new tripod holds the telescope firmly; I had no trouble focusing even with a high power eyepiece. The equatorial mount is a little more complicated to balance and align than the AstroMaster 70 AZ , but the reward is better slow motion control and tracking at magnifications over 100X. Simply point the equatorial axis at Polaris, the North Star, and the telescope tracks celestial objects by turning one slow motion knob. This makes it much easier to use a high power eyepiece while viewing the Moon and Planets. The “star pointer” finder scope works by shining a red LED on a plastic window; just look through the window and line up the red spot with your target. This works OK for bright objects like the Moon and planets but not so well for finding galaxies and deep space objects. The AstroMaster 70 EQ is a very good entry level telescope for a student or family. The good quality 70mm optics produce an image that is significantly sharper and brighter than 60mm beginner scopes, and the AstroMaster 70 EQ includes a solid mount, two good eyepieces, and fully illustrated instructions. --Jeff Phillips Pros: Reliable refractor design Good views of the Moon and planets Complete accessory package Simple no tool setup Cons: Star-pointer not so easy to use

The silver is TwinStar 6 "Short Tube EQ Reflector telescope mount a good telescope?

I want a small, not expensive 6-inch reflector telescope. I saw this telescope but I've never heard of the brand. Please hellp !!!!!! PS: If you know of a non-expensive small 6-inch telescope mirrors, please let me know in your reply. Thanks

Never heard of this brand, but keep in mind that when it comes to astronomical equipment ... you get what you pay for. If you buy a "cheap" scope, will more than likely will give economic views as well. Especially when it comes mount / tripod. "Cheap" areas tend to be cheap b / c the tripod that comes with it is not strong enough to allow a squirrel sitting on it without excessive shaking and vibration. If you blow on it, is likely to fall. Can you imagine trying to see something that is constantly moving and vibrating in your eye? If you want a good 6 "reflector, you need to make the investment. There are plenty of online sites like telescope.com, telescopeS.com and optcorp.com. Stick with name brands b / c you at least have a warranty and tech support. Stay away from eBay and chain stores. Celestron’s Astromaster 90EQ refractor telescope is a good choice for anyone who wants to try out astronomy for an affordable price, and it can double as a long range spotting scope. Bigger and more impressive than it looks in pictures, the Astromaster 90 EQ is an adult size telescope that stands nearly five feet high and weighs almost 25 pounds. With it’s fully illustrated quick set up guide, the telescope is easy to assemble, and the package includes an erect image prism, high and low power eyepieces, and astronomy software for your PC. Refractors are known for their crisp, high contrast views of the Moon and planets and the Astromaster 90 delivers sharp views right out of the box. The low power 20mm eyepiece (50X magnification) nicely frames the moon, while the high power 10mm eyepiece (100X magnification) delivers a crisp close up image full of detail. The sharp Achromatic optics of the Astromaster 90 EQ give me memorable views night after night. On a moonless night I like the way the 20mm eyepiece frames the ghostly glow of the Orion Nebula. Zooming in with the 10mm eyepiece, I can easily pick out all four stars of the Orion Nebula’s embedded quadruple star the Trapezium. Another night I was treated to a nice view as one of Jupiter’s moons cast its shadow on Jupiter’s cloud tops. The Equatorial mount included with the Astromaster 90 EQ is designed to help track stars and planets at high power. When I set up the telescope, I simply point the polar axis at Polaris, the North Star. This makes it easy to keep celestial objects in the field of view by turning one slow motion knob. Celestron also offers the AstroMaster 90 EQ MD which includes a battery powered motor for automatic tracking. The CG-3 equatorial mount is a little wobbly when the legs are fully extended, but that’s normal for any large telescope in this price range. The built in “Star-Pointer” finder allows me to aim the telescope by aligning an illuminated red dot with the target. This works OK for bright objects like the Moon and planets, but it’s not so easy to use on fainter deep space objects. --Jeff Phillips Pros: Crisp clear views of the Moon and planets Rugged refractor design Easy no-tool set up Erect image prism and two eyepieces included Cons: Equatorial mount wobbles a bit while focusing Star pointer not so easy to use Jupiter showing the shadow of Ganymede, July 22, approx 400X. Double star Albireo in Cygnus, July 28, approx 200X The Moon as seen at 50X with Canon Powershot camera. The Moon as seen at 200X with Neximage camera

Blue TwinStar FirstStar 3 Blue TwinStar FirstStar 3" Reflector Telescope

Sale Price: $99.99

Description

Here is an ideal first reflector telescope for the novice astronomer or young child (6 or 7 with adult supervision, otherwise 8 & up). With a large 76mm (3 inch) primary mirror, this reflector telescope is ideal for backyard astronomy and is a great introductory telescope for learning all about astronomy. With this three inch telescope, you can see tremendous detail when viewing the moon. With planets you can see the Rings of Saturn and the Moons of Jupiter. In dark skies you can see distant nebulae and galaxies as well. This telescope comes with 3 eyepieces with storage containers, and a Barlow 2x lens. That gives you six different magnification options. With the Barlow, you can achieve up to 350x magnification of distant objects. Plus, this telescope is compatible with two sizes of eyepieces -- the .965" diameter eyepieces that are included and the larger 1.25" eyepieces (so you can upgrade your view when you're ready!) Your telescope also comes with a dust-free cleaning cloth, a great map of the surface of the moon and a moon filter designed for reducing moon glare and making surface details more clear, and a poster of the solar system. The aluminum tripod is fully adjustable and allows even taller people to observe the stars without having to crouch down in an uncomfortable position. A handy accessory tray on the tripod makes it easy to keep track of extra eyepieces. With the altazimuth mounting, the telescope is designed for beginners and children. There is nothing to it. This is a true "point-and-shoot" telescope. The mount makes it simple to aim and move the telescope, you don't need to learn about complex Polar Alignment or stellar coordinates -- just aim the telescope at what you want to see and have a look.

Features

  • 3 inch (76 mm), hard coated primary mirror -- 700mm focal length
  • Included Eyepieces: (1) 20mm Eyepiece; (1) 12mm Eyepiece; (1) 4mm Eyepiece; (1) Barlow 2x lens
  • Large Moon Poster and Large Solar System Poster Included
  • Altazimuth "Point & Shoot" Mount and Tripod
  • Big enough to give you great views, yet still lightweight and manageable enough for kids!
