Why is the Hubble Space Telescope is considered to give the best images in the visible?
Why is the Hubble Space Hubble is considered to give the best images in the visible when telescopes like the Keck telescopes with mirrors 10 meters almost five times as big.
no distortion due to Earth's atmosphere is orbiting Hubble so you can see clearly in the space. Keck has to do with distortion looking through kilometers of Earth's atmosphere. It's a bit like when you're looking at the horizon on a hot summer day in a long journey. The wavy lines you see distort the view are atmosphere. The same happens when the Keck about looking into space. Hope that helps.

The gas and dust in the nebula have been ejected by the star in two polar jets, moving in opposite directions, a process known as bipolar outflow. It is thought that the star at the centre of this nebula is an old red giant star. The nebula is around 2 light years in length. The Boomerang Features

Cartwheel galaxy, multi-wavelength image Photo Mugs |
DescriptionCartwheel galaxy, multi-wavelength image. Around 100 million years ago, a smaller galaxy passed directly through the centre of the Cartwheel galaxy. This caused shock waves to propagate out through the galaxy, which caused bursts of star formation. The bright blue ring marks the region where huge, powerful ultraviolet-emitting stars have formed. The inner orange ring is the second wave, but this has far less star formation than the first Features

Imax: Hubble 3D [Blu-ray]
List Price: |
DescriptionOriginally presented in the IMAX format, this stellar documentary follows the crew of the Space Shuttle Atlantis as they took to the stars in 2009 to complete vital repairs to the Hubble Space Telescope. Over the course of five carefully planned spacewalks, the astronauts employed their craft's mechanical arm to make adjustments while traveling at a mind-boggling 17,000 miles per hour. Narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio. 44 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtrack: English. Blu-ray 3D requires a 3D television, 3D Blu-ray player, and special glasses to reproduce the original theatrical experience. Leonardo DiCaprio narrates this spellbinding (if rather brief) look at some unprecedented photos of the farthest reaches of our galaxy, as well as the people responsible for taking off the lens cap. Focusing on the 2009 flight of the shuttle Atlantis, the film follows the dangerous final mission to repair the Hubble telescope, a process that required split-second timing, some hastily improvised fixes, and the very real risk of suit ruptures. Originally displayed in 3-D IMAX (with much of the footage shot by the astronauts), this loses remarkably little in the transition to home theaters, with a dazzling presentation that stretches the current limits of high-def television screens and subwoofers. (Viewers with sensitive pets might want to get them out of the room before the launch cycle starts.) While the 40-minute running time may leave viewers wanting more about the specifics of the mission, this demo-quality disc offers a succession of amazing images, whether it be an entrancing glimpse beyond the edges of the universe, a speculative look at the creation of infant solar systems, or the somehow equally gorgeous sight of a weary astronaut rolling a perfect zero-g burrito. --Andrew Wright |

IMAX: Hubble (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy Combo Pack) [Blu-ray]
Sale Price: $18.50 |
DescriptionIn May 2009, the Space Shuttle Atlantis crew launched a mission to make vital repairs and upgrades to the Hubble Space Telescope, the world's first space-based optical telescope. An IMAX® camera captured stunning footage of the five intricate spacewalks required, as well as close-up images of the effort to grasp the orbiting telescope with the shuttle's mechanical arm -- and an unexpected problem that could sabotage the entire mission. This breathtaking material is combined with images taken during the 20 years Hubble has been aloft. Through advanced computer visualization, its detailed data becomes a series of scientifically realistic flights unfolding on screen like a guided tour of the universe, through time and space. |
