Drops of Time Quantum 5

Summary

The theory of special relativity and quantum mechanics has its mysteries that overrides the common sense of people living in a world sprint or restrict to Newtonian physics. Some examples are also presented ..

Time Quantum Drops 5

The Mysteries of Relativity

Objects that decreases in length

According to the theory of relativity an object moving in the direction of movement length decreases as speed increases up to remove when it reaches the speed of light in a vacuum.

The mass of an object increases with speed

The increasing mass of a moving object, as speed gains to be infinite at the speed of light. The first experimental verification of this effect was presented at the Stanford Linear Accelerator (more than three miles long), in California, which accelerated electrons, already close to the speed of light was the increase of the mass of 40,000. Overall, a soccer ball that weighs about 450 grams from accelerating to full speed near the speed of light can weigh more than the Sun!

The rhythm of time of a body decreases with increasing speed

This effect of relativity is true also with increasing speed until the time stops completely when the body reaches the speed of light. This unusual phenomenon has given rise to the paradox twins: if a brother of a pair of twins make a trip in a spaceship near the speed of light, returning to Earth, would be younger than his brother who stayed here during the same time. This is not fiction. It is an effect of relativity has been verified experimentally. A high precision atomic clock in orbit Earth presents significant differences with respect to time of a clock synchronized with the same stationary on the ground. The science fiction film Planet of the Apes is no longer fiction in the future if man will travel at speeds near the speed of light. It should be remembered that the theory of relativity prohibits a body has the same speed of light, but the equation shows that the relativistic mass can exceed the speed of light, which would lead to unobserved particles to tákeons now in the journal Nature. That would allow travel into the past, leading to the grandfather paradox: a person can travel back in time and kill your grandfather, but if that happened she would not have born. Also the trip to the future could be through holes called wormholes would allow travel between parallel universes, if they exist. Time machines are feasible in unorthodox situations. Another example of the relativity of time is interplanetary communication. When man land on Mars centers space controllers on Earth will only receive the confirmation of the landing 20 minutes later, a 'hello' received from the astronaut in the Martian soil and is a past event, but for us it is present. When we look at the sky we are looking to the past. A star is not may no longer exist, what we see are the photons that come out of it for years, thousands of years, millions of years, or even billions of years in the case of a galaxy, quasar, or a neutron star, the black hole appears only indirect evidence. Space Telescope Hubble has photographed galaxies that are at the beginning of time, depending on the model of the Big Bang.

Suppose your Newtonian reflector telescope has a mirror 25 cm diameter target with a focal length of 2m

What increase with eye bags with focal legths of: a.) 9mm, b.) c. 20mm and 55mm)? What is the angular resolution of telescopes?

Magnification = lens focal length divided between the focal length of the eyepiece. 2m = 2.000 mm, so the 9mm eyepiece gives 2000 / 9 = 222 power, 20 mm gives 2000/20 = 100 gives power and 55mm 2000/55 = 36 power.

I love bargains, so I was eager to try out Celestron's new Powerseeker 114 Newtonian reflector telescope. With its 4.5-inch mirror, Celestron's Powerseeker 114 gathers three times more starlight than popular 60mm refractors. The Powerseeker package includes two eyepieces (K20 and SR4), a plastic 3x barlow, and a lightweight equatorial mount. Optically, the Powerseeker 114 holds its own when compared with my Celestron Firstscope 114EQ. Using the K20 eyepiece included as standard equipment, about 45x magnification, it's easy to see the Andromeda Galaxy and its smaller satellite galaxy M32. When compared to 60mm refractors, the Powerseeker 114 brings out much more detail in the Orion Nebula, reveals many more stars in Perseus' Double Cluster and even brings out a few individual stars in globular clusters like M13. Saturn looks quite small at 45x with the K20 eyepiece, but using my own 7.5mm eyepiece (120x) I can easily detect the shadow cast by the planet on the rings, and even glimpse the ring's Cassini Division. When the mirrors are properly lined up or "collimated," the images are reasonably sharp up to magnifications of 225x. I find a collimation tool helps get this fine tuning just right. As good as the optics are, however, the effect of cost-cutting shows up in the mechanical components. The focuser is plastic, the finder scope is plastic, the rings that attach the telescope to the tripod are plastic. Even when the tripod legs are clamped at their shortest setting, the telescope wobbles when I try to focus at higher magnifications. Celestron's instruction manual correctly recommends that most viewing be done in the range of 40x to 130x. So what about that 675x magnification proclaimed on the box? I'd say it's not worth the trouble. Overall, the Celestron Powerseeker 114 is a budget priced telescope with good optical performance, especially when using the low power K20 eyepiece. If you're willing to spend a little more money, either Orion's SkyQuest XT4.5 or Celestron's Firstscope 114EQ will give you a sturdier mount, an improved finder scope, and better eyepieces. Also, for about the price of the Powerseeker 114, I like the dependable refractor design of Celestron's Firstscope 70EQ. --Jeff Phillips Pros: Low cost Good optics Serviceable K20 eyepiece Cons: Wobbly mount Difficult to collimate Plastic finder and focuser

Orion SpaceProbe 3 Altazimuth Reflector Telescope Orion SpaceProbe 3 Altazimuth Reflector Telescope

Sale Price: $99.99

Description

If you're looking for an affordable entry-level telescope for that beginning astronomy enthusiast, our SpaceProbe 3 Altaz is the perfect choice. Great for all-around stargazing, this highly portable, uncomplicated scope is just the right size and weight for the entire family, and just the right price for parents. This is a quality telescope, with a 3" (76mm) glass primary mirror mounted in a sturdy Neptune Blue Metallic aluminum tube. The rack-and-pinion focuser accepts standard 1.25" eyepieces. Two Explorer II eyepieces, a low-power 25mm (28x) and a high-power 10mm (70x), are included. An EZ Finder II finder scope mounted on the tube helps zero-in on the sky target. The altazimuth mount is lightweight and easy to use. To aim it, simply move it up or down or left or right. An adjustable, aluminum tripod with accessory tray is also included. One-year limited warranty.

Orion's surprising little Spaceprobe 3 has been picked by independent reviewers as one of the best telescopes in its price class. Unlike similar telescopes seen in discount stores, Orion has refined the Spaceprobe 3 by paying attention to the little details, and that make this telescope a great value. The Spaceprobe 3 comes with an unusually complete set of accessories. The package includes two very good Explorer II eyepieces (25mm and 10mm), an adjustable altazimuth tripod, a good red-dot finder, a student edition of "The Sky" planetarium program, and a well written manual. The package even includes the tools you'll need to assemble the telescope and align the optics. The Spaceprobe 3 is a Newtonian reflector. That means it uses mirrors instead of lenses. Newtonians are primarily used for astronomy because the images are upside-down. Orion includes a collimation tool and good directions for aligning the mirrors. The reward for aligning the mirrors is seen in images that snap into sharp focus. My Spaceprobe 3 arrived properly aligned right out of the box. With its Explorer II eyepieces, this telescope consistently delivers fine views. Using the 25mm eyepiece (28x magnification) the Pleiades cluster is simply wonderful, showing dozens of stars. From a rural location with a dark sky, the Orion Nebula is a big ghostly glow, and when I zoom in with the 10mm eyepiece, the Trapezium resolves into four tiny pinpoints. The double star Gamma Andromeda becomes two beads of light, one gold, the other one pale blue. Moon and planet images are crisp, with none of the false color I see in low cost refractors. When I look at the Moon I see mountains and terraced walls inside the larger craters. With the 10mm eyepiece (about 70x), Saturn's rings are sharply separated from the planet, and I can even pick out the planet's shadow on the rings. The Altazimuth mount included with this telescope is light and easy to use; it may be the best choice for a young astronomer. If you want motorized tracking of the stars and planets, Orion's Spaceprobe 3 EQ is available with an equatorial mount, and Celestron sells essentially the same optical system with the computerized NexStar 76GT. -Jeff Phillips Pros: Best in class optical performance Two good Explorer II eyepieces Complete accessory package Cons: Small 76mm aperture Upside-down terrestrial images

Features

  • A fantastic beginner telescope that's lightweight.
  • 76mm aperture reflector telescope is large enough for wonderful views of the Moon.
  • The included EZ Finder II makes finding celestial objects a breeze.
  • Includes two 1.25" telescope eyepieces, EZ Finder II reflex sight, smooth rack and pinion focuser.
