Tips for a new telescope (Newtonian reflector maybe)?
Hi folks, I'm a little novice amateur astronomer asmallish refractor telescope. It is very unstable and difficult to find things. I am desperate to get some good views of planets (Jupiter I have achieved so far only) nebula and galaxies. I saw a great future Newtonian Reflector on ebay that went for £ 250 ($ 500). Support and fitters seemed far superior to mine. Any advice on purchasing one thing to achieve my desires?
A Newt is a great scope to start. You can get a good deal on eBay, but you can also get a bit of rubbish as well. The website, cloudy nights as some comments that may help you decide what type of scope to buy. Look for some clubs in your area. Get the opinions of the members there. Many of them can prove their scopes during the observation of a club to see how you like. That might be the best place to go before you plop down your cash.
