a telescope is better ..?
is it this: Celestron NexStar 114 SLT Computerized Newtonian Telescope or this: Celestron NexStar 130 SLT Computerized Newtonian Telescope can tell me to look further, as the planet. Where is the primary mirror located. and what it means slt. It means that the higher the more distance you can see? 10points also 25mm vs 9mm eye thing, you can look further?
The NexStar 130 SLT is better than the TR 114, due to greater primary mirror 130 mm in diameter instead of 114 mm. "Looking beyond" is not relevant. Even at a glance you can see the Andromeda galaxy, which is 2.5 million light years away. The most important thing is how bright and sharp image will be, and that is where the biggest mirror wins. The primary mirror is located in the bottom of the telescope tube. Collects light from heaven and brings it to a focus on the upper end, where a small diagonal mi8rror deflecting tube side the eye, which is where you put your eye to look. The 25 mm eyepiece will give a wide field of view at low magnification, for the observation of large objects, such as clusters of stars and the moon, and to find small objects. The 9 mm eyepiece will give you more gains but a smaller field of view, suitable for close-up views of the Moon and planets. In telescopes such as these, which is putting most of their money on the computer that the telescope is pointing instead of lenses that form the image. It is possible instead want to consider a Dobsonian telescope where you have to find objects by hand, but will be bigger and brighter when it is time, and therefore easier to see. The Orion series IntelliScope is an interesting compromise: in the mirror Dobsonian mount, but with a computerized object locator help you find things. Here are a few great websites with good information on beginner's telescopes: http://www.scopereviews.com/begin.html http://observers.org/beginner/ http://www.gaherty.ca/tme/TME0702_Buying_a_Telescope.pdf For advanced jrfbeginner.html more information, read Phil Harrington's Star Ware, 4th edition (Wiley). Get the most value for your money with a Newtonian reflector on a Dobsonian mount, such as: http://www.telescope.com/control/category/ ~ category_id = dobsonians / ~ Pcategory = telescopes / ~ VIEW_INDEX = 0 / ~ VIEW_SIZE = 1000000 http://www.skywatchertelescope.net/swtinc/product. php? class1 = 1 and class 2 = 106 Buy in Store which specializes in telescopes and astronomy, either locally or online, do not buy at department stores, discount stores or eBay as all they sell is junk. Find your local astronomy club and try out different telescopes at one of their star parties: http://www.skyandtelescope.com/community/organizations

How to Use a Computerized Telescope: Practical Amateur Astronomy Volume 1
List Price: |
DescriptionHow to Use a Computerized Telescope describes how to get a computerized telescope up-and-running, and how to embark on a program of observation. Michael Covington explains in detail how the sky moves, how a telescope tracks it, and how to get the most out of any computerized telescope. Packed full of practical advice and tips for troubleshooting, his book gives detailed instructions for three popular telescopes: the Meade® LX200, Celestron^DCC NexStar 5 and 8, and Meade® Autostar^DTM (ETX and LX90). Michael A. Covington is an associate research scientist at the University of Georgia. He is a computational linguist trained in the computer processing of human language and the computer modeling of human logical reasoning, and a widely recognized expert on the Prolog programming language. He is the author of nine books including Dictionary of Computer and Internet Terms, Seventh Edition (Barron's, 2000), Astrophotography for the Amateur (Cambridge, 1999), PROLOG Programming in Depth (Simon & Schuster, 1996), Cambridge Eclipse Photography Guide (1993), and Syntactic Theory in the High Middle Ages (Cambridge, 1985). A senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Covington is a Contributing Editor to, and former "Q&A" columnist of, Poptronics magazine. |

Go-To Telescopes Under Suburban Skies (Patrick Moore's Practical Astronomy Series)
List Price: |
DescriptionGo-To Telescopes Under Suburban Skies is the first book specifically written for amateur astronomers who own, or who are about to purchase, a computer-controlled âgo-toâ telescope. The advantage of the âgo-toâ capability is enormous â the telescope can be aimed at any object in the sky with great speed and accuracy â which is why these instruments are so popular. Making the realistic assumption that the observer is using a relatively small telescope and is observing from a backyard in a suburban area, this book provides literally hundreds more targets beyond those offered by the built-in ânightly toursâ that feature on the telescopeâs computer tours. And instead of wasting many pages on maps and coordinates, it leads the computer to locate the targets, and so has room to suggest many more fascinating deep-sky objects and provide detailed observing lists and information about what's being viewed. |
