Will the Zhumell Eclipse 114 with Motor Drive Telescope Reflector good.?
What does the motor unit to do? I know it says that helps find things easier. But I do not understand how or what it really means ... Also, what are the parts of the eye to? Here is the link to the telescope ... Http://www.telescopes.com/telescopes/reflecting-telescopes/zhumelleclipse114withmotordrivetelescope.cfm Thank you.
No, this a telescope is very poor, and I would not recommend it to anyone. Use a short focal ratio mirror ball and a Barlow lens built to achieve its focal length, this design is difficult to adjust and suffers from serious flaws that prevent it from increasing optical more than about 100 times. The tripod and mount are unstable and will be very difficult for a beginner to operate. The motor unit compensates for the rotation of the Earth once you've found something, but not easy to search anything easier. The eye provide different magnifications here. there are few websites with good information on beginner's telescopes: http://www.gaherty.ca/tme/TME0702_Buying_a_Telescope.pdf jrfbeginner.html http://www.scopereviews.com/begin.html http://observers.org/beginner/ For more advanced information, read Phil Harrington's Star Ware, 4th edition (Wiley). You get the most value for your money with a Newtonian reflector on a Dobsonian mount, such as: ~ = ~ category_id http://www.telescope.com/control/category/ = Dobsonians pcategory / telescopes / ~ VIEW_INDEX = 0 / ~ VIEW_SIZE = 1000000 http://www.skywatchertelescope.net/swtinc/product. php? class1 = 1 & class2 = 106 Buy from a store that specializes in telescopes and astronomy, either locally or online, do not buy in department stores, discount stores or eBay as a whole what they sell is junk. Orion SkyQuest XT8 Classic Dobsonian Reflector Telescope
Sale Price: $489.00 |
DescriptionThe Orion XT series (available in 4.5", 6", 8", and 10") includes some of my favorite entry-level telescopes, and I recommend this one, the 8", most of all. It's well-made, has very good optics, is relatively cheap, isn't too big or too small, and has a nice look. It features an 8" mirror that gathers enough light to do serious work. The mount is a simple alt-az ("altitude-azimuth," a fancy term that simply means "up-down-left-right") design. There is no automated tracking mechanism. When the object in your field of view starts to go out of sight, you simply push to scope along to re-center it. This may sound inconvenient, but the axes are very smooth and responsive to the touch. To maintain tension, the altitude axis ("up-down") uses an innovative spring system. The springs also allow one hardy and ambitious individual to pick up and move it with one hand (the scope weighs 42 lbs.) A 6X30 finder scope is included to help you get oriented, as well as two eyepieces: a 25 mm Plossl (49X) and a 10 mm Plossl (121X). While these eyepieces are of decent quality, the dedicated observer will eventually want to upgrade to better eyepieces like one of Orion's own Ultrascopics. Regardless of eyepiece though, this scope will let you easily see Saturn's rings (this is something you do not want to miss, trust me), Jupiter and its four moons, dozens of named craters on the moon, and hundreds of star clusters, galaxies (wait until you see the Andromeda Galaxy) and nebulae. It'll keep you busy for years. Yes, you could go to the mall and get one of those cheap little computer-controlled gizmo telescopes. The problem is, those cute little scopes won't do any one thing well, and they don't gather enough light (the XT8's 8" mirror gathers eight to ten times as much light as those little 2"-3" scopes). If you've got a new-found interest in astronomy and want an entry-level telescope, you need look no further--although I should also point out that Orion has an excellent upgraded version of the scope called the "Intelliscope" which features the ability to locate thousands of objects by hand using a separately sold paddle-style controller. And if you can't swing the price of the XT8 Intelliscope, I recommend the slightly smaller XT6, which is also a great deal for the price. --Ed Ting Pros Great scope for the price At 8", the mirror is big enough to do serious work Includes two perfectly serviceable eyepieces Easy re-centering of objects Enough viewing power to keep you occupied for years Cons No automated tracking mechanism The serious sky watcher may need to eventually upgrade to a better eyepiece A not very portable 42 pounds Our classic XT8 isn't just great bang for the buck, it's a veritable explosion of telescope value. It combines powerful parabolic optics with the ultimate in mechanical stability. The SkyQuest XT8 features an 8" parabolic primary mirror that will tease out detail in nebulas, resolve stars in globular clusters, and reveal subtle structure in galaxies. The enameled steel optical tube sports a 2" aluminum rack-and-pinion focuser that accepts both 2" and 1.25" eyepieces. The tube moves effortlessly on Teflon/UHMW bearings for point-and-view simplicity. Comes complete with navigation knob, 6x30 finder scope, two 1.25" Sirius Plossl eyepieces, eyepiece rack, collimation cap, and hard dust cap. Features

Weighs 57 ozs. Order yours today! Celestron 20-60x80 mm Zoom 45 degree Spotting Scope Celestron’s popular Ultima 80mm Zoom Spotting Scope offers images that are noticeably brighter and sharper than entry level 60mm spotters. The Ultima 80 is a refractor style spotting scope with an Achromatic objective lens. Excellent light transmission is assured by multi-layer anti-reflection coatings on the objective lens as well as on the zoom eyepiece and the BAK-4 prisms. The multi-coated 80mm objective lens delivers 77% brighter views than a 60mm scope, and the built in zoom lens produces sharp images from 20X all the way up to 60X magnification. The Ultima 80 features a sleek, waterproof design and includes a padded soft case with zippers on both ends so the scope can be protected even while mounted on a tripod. Including the eyepiece the Ultima 80 measures just over 18 inches long and weighs about 3.6 pounds. The rubber eyecup can be removed to expose a standard “T-thread” for attaching a camera. I like the 45* angled eyepiece because I can use a shorter tripod to support the spotting scope while viewing or while taking pictures with a small camera attached to the eyepiece. The focus ranges from 27 feet to the horizon with just a few turns of the focus knob. When I fold down the rubber eye cup I can keep my glasses on and see the whole 2 degree field of view at 20X magnification. With my glasses on I need very little focus adjustment while I crank the zoom eyepiece from 20X up to 60X. Sometimes though I like to take my glasses off while observing because the view seems to have just a little more contrast and sharpness. I like the fact that the Ultima 80 gives me a sharp image either way. The drawback of the tradition crown and flint achromatic lens used in the Ultima 80 Zoom Spotting Scope is a bit of false color, also known as blue fringing or chromatic aberration. Blue fringing seems well controlled at 20X magnification, but it becomes increasingly noticeable as I zoom up to 60X. Celestron also offers the Ultima 80ED and the Regal 80 F-ED spotting scopes which use exotic ED glass lenses to virtually eliminate blue fringing and produce the sharpest possible high power views. Shot at 20X zoom at about 20 yards, cropped 50% (Click here to see uncropped) Shot at 20X zoom at about 50 yards, cropped 30% Shot at 20X zoom, uncropped but reduced in size (Click here to see at 60X zoom) Shot at 20X zoom at about 50 yards, cropped 30% Features

Meade 20218 NG-70SM 70mm Altazimuth Refractor Telescope
List Price: |
DescriptionMEADE 20218 NG-70SM 70mm Altazimuth Refractor Telescope Meade 20218 NG-70SM 70mm Altazimuth Refractor Telescope Meade's value priced NG-70SM Altazimuth Refractor is an affordable entry level telescope that features an easy to use Altazimuth mount with slow motion controls for precise tracking. The complete package includes a sturdy metal tripod, a red dot viewfinder, two 1.25 inch eyepieces and a star diagonal, and a software DVD with instructional video. The NG-70SM Refractor Telescope comes disassembled in a compact box, but the instructional DVD video guides you through all the steps required for assembly. Go ahead and try it out in the daytime, that's the best time to align the red-dot finder scope while looking at a distant tree or telephone pole. The optics of Meade's NG-70SM produce an image that is right side up but the diagonal mirror reverses the image left-to-right. That's no problem most of the time, but an optional correct image diagonal is available. The low power 25mm eyepiece produces a magnification 28X which is just right for spotting the Moon or the planets, while the 9mm eyepiece (78X magnification) can be used to zoom in for more detail. The MH25 eyepiece at 28X shows a lovely view of the Lunar disk in a dark sky, while the MH9 eyepiece at 78X shows literally hundreds of craters on the Moon and begins to show the rings of Saturn and the cloud bands of Jupiter. For even better views it's easy to add better eyepieces. My best view of Saturn, for example, came with an optional 6.4mm Super Plossl eyepiece, about 110X magnification. The Altazimuth mount included with Meade's NG-70SM is lighter and easier to use than an Equatorial mount, yet the slow motion knobs make it easy to keep objects in view. The rotation of the Earth causes the Moon or planets to appear to drift out of the eyepiece, but the slow motion knobs make it easy to keep the telescope on target, even with a high power eyepiece. The telescope is sensitive to vibration, however, so a high power eyepiece can be difficult to focus. Meade's NG-70SM is a good entry level telescope at a very good price. The optics are good, the Altazimuth mount is easy to assemble and easy to use, the instructional DVD includes a nice Lunar Atlas as well as planetarium software, and it's easy to add better eyepieces to improve your view of the planets. –Jeff Phillips Pros: Light and easy to use Altazimuth mount includes slow motion knobs Easy to add better eyepieces Instructional DVD included; Cons: MH eyepieces have narrow field of view Vibrates while focusing at high power Features
