I just received my first telescope. When I look I see Saturn's rings, all I see is a yellow spot, why?
I am using a Meade ETX-70AT telescope with 25mm eyepiece that comes with.
It may be a matter of focus. 25mm eyepiece you if you get about 15x 14x or, which is just enough to make you see the rings as long as you know they are supposed to see them. During the day, take your scope outside (DO NOT STARE INTO SOL, OK) and focus on the most distant object on the horizon you can find. Is it clear and sharp? The center of Saturn should not be too far from it. Depending on where are, there will be a crescent in the west tonight. Focus on that. When the image is sharp and clear, should not have to change the focus at all to look at Saturn. Both objects are essentially infinite, or nearly so, in regard to 15x. A 9mm eyepiece takes you to 34x, so you may want to get one. Just make sure 25mm works that follow the above procedure. Charles HTH
