telescope for astronomy

What is the difference between astronomy telescopes and telescopes for stargazing?

I am thinking of buying a telescope I do not know the difference between them. I want to use my telescope for just looking at Saturn, Mars and other planets, perhaps near the stars to see what I can see and space station and satellites!

the same difference between a bat hitting basball designed for one designed for batting.

Beam Me Up - Hid Kits & Why you should not be afraid of the dark

Despite this success, HID xenon kits are still considered as a vital member and desirable landscape full of aftermarket, where you can find by the gross, who insisted throughout cyberspace. This leads us to an obvious question: is on the hunt for its own HID? If so, let's look at some things that can help you find the best set of torches high technology to fit the front of sled.

HID or HID? And what does it mean anyway

Although is rather laughable, actually there are heated discussions on internet forums as to whether it is known as HID or HID really does not matter. Both mean exactly the same, so if you are looking for a debate here, you will not find one. But HID is an acronym that stands for high intensity discharge. High Intensity Discharge Lighting has lived more than you may think, having appeared most of two decades ago, and has been used everywhere from sports stadiums, theaters, places construction, and in more recent times, the headlights of the car. Known worldwide for its tremendous light output and profitable life, technology HID is still seen as innovative and cutting-edge, simply because it is much more advanced compared to "halogen bulbs every day."

How it works

It all starts with xenon gas. Xenon gas is a colorless heavy element when heated, a great driver reach enlightenment. That is why HID kits normally see advertised as "Xenon HID Kits." The process goes a little something like this: first, a current power was a liability. The job of a ballast is to maintain the current and provide power for starting the HID bulb. The Xenon gas inside the bulb (s) heated. Once it's hot (which is in fractions of a second), a brand extremely bright and powerful light is emitted, complete the effect. With a car, the current ballasts use electric battery is derived. And of course, new HID bulbs replace the original halogens. Any connection cables or components are easily subject to the areas under its hood, and can be accessed quickly if necessary.

Well, okay. Is it really that big of a difference?

This is probably the question asked most-HID xenon kits are really superior to regular headlights or lights projector? And the answer is a resounding "YES." This is not mere opinion. Xenon HID headlamps are able to produce a light level which is equivalent sun. In other words, up to five times brighter than halogen bulbs. It is very difficult to compete with that kind of power. Does this mean that you are traveling in an unsafe manner because it still has original halogen headlamps? Not really. But it would be naive of anyone to assume that their level of driving safety is not is dramatically increased by the use of a Xenon HID kit. Here are some notes to be taken into account. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, approximately 1.5 million accidents occur at night, with an additional 600, 000 that occur during rain or inclement weather. While that should not be a shock, is a little alarming when you consider the growing number of cars on the road. Couple that with more and more drivers are arming themselves with HID headlamps, and what we is a real effect direct train that can not be ignored. In short, the more people who have them, the more sure we'll all be. In addition to the enormous light output HID Xenon lights are capable of, also spread to a much more complete and coupling beam that carries all the way forward in focus. Stop signs, street names, highway exits. Deer, animals, or even ordinary people from much farther away than ever. HID lights also knife through rain and fog with a lot more vigor than halogen lamps. It is the unparalleled level of security HID headlights states that has become so acceptable an option for drivers of all ages and backgrounds.

"The Look": HID Kits as a fashion statement

Obviously, driving safety is not always the main reason people have lined up to get their hands on a Xenon HID kit. HID kits are so associated with futuristic as it is traveling caution. That's not is a bad thing. accessories are the automotive industry, where one goes to something that is "hot" or fashion is often also is safe and logical. HID headlights happen to fall into that category. HID lamps, drivers have the potential to add a touch of bronze which undoubtedly produces quite a different effect than halogen factory. color tones are determined by the light output, measured in K (Kelvin). The higher the K, the deeper the color. Options range from 3000K to be normally the whiter end of the spectrum of 15000K, which is the unmistakable blue you have surely noticed on the track at one time or another.

Installation: No Sweat is!

It is understandable that many car owners whether or not the height of the installation of an HID conversion kit. Trust me when I say this: anyone can do it! All that really means is to find the points under the hood where you need to connect the components. Each kit comes with assembly instructions and reinforcements, so they should not have to go and buy an additional "hardware" (If your computer requires additional components has bought the wrong kit.) Once done, the rest is simple. Of course, access to the headlights and the battery terminal differ for each car. Then I have included some suggestions that I hope will increase their confidence of installation (if you need any)!

1) Know your bulb size!

2) Make task. Check your vehicle manual for the exploration of the content under the hood. Knowing where everything is ahead of time. Too often, drivers buy HID conversion kits and try to do everything at once. While rapid installation, it does not hurt to be prepared for when things go once they have the equipment in his possession.

3) Fix a pair of rubber gloves. HID Xenon bulbs are extremely sensitive. Natural oils or dirt from your fingers can corrupt the bulbs, depriving them efficiency. If you use your bare hands, be sure to not touch the glass lamp bulbs.

Four) Perform installation during the day or in a well-lit garage. While this may sound trite, is too important to not mention. You're going to have to test the HID system to ensure proper operation. This means ensuring that the cables and components are in the right places. There is nothing worse than fumbling around with wires and the like, when there is work to do!

Kit that is the best? There are many different brands of HID xenon kits out there, it's easy to get lost in the fray. When searching for HID kit, you want take a couple of things into consideration. The type of lighting output you want (K), tone, and of course, the price range. At this time, Conversion Kits SE Notto HID are gaining much attention. SE Notto HID kits are of high quality, versatile, good price and easy to install. They also come in all outputs / tones of 3000K to 15000K, so you have a full spectrum of options. There are many fine kits out there, but I would recommend Notto SE kits just because it seems to have everything going for it. To the Like anything else, you have to carry out its own investigation. See what is out there and what makes sense for you, your car and your budget. But no hesitation in getting involved in the revolution HID! With HID xenon kits, you need not fear the dark anymore!

What is the difference in leveling equipment and a lift kit?

"I wonder what is the difference between a team of leveling and a lift kit is from my truck to get bigger tires. (97 Nissan xe and want the 29-inch tires).

A team is simply leveling coil spring spacers that just lift the front of his truck about 2 ". A lift kit lifts the entire truck. If you raise your Nissan at least 2 inches in front, you will have no problem getting a 31 "tire.

5 Things to do outdoors with their children on a clear night

On dark nights, of course, an amazing world awaits even the casual observer. Telescopes and binoculars are optional and the display is better at night when the moon is not full. So here are five great ways to enjoy a night clear to children:

Looking for satellites

Our sky is filled with all kinds of spacecraft meteorological satellite communications satellites to the space station. On clear nights, they are easy to detect. Just look what appears to be a slow movement of stars. Unlike an airplane, these objects do not have blinking lights and are usually white in appearance, as they reflect light the sun.

In general, the slower the satellite appears to be moving across the sky, the higher orbit. And the satellites tend to disappear, reappear, enlighten and regulated according to the rotation of the object and how it is reflected sunlight.

See shooting stars

certain times of the year, the Earth enters the debris trail left by the fleeing comets. Within which usually falls in mid-August and another is around the second week of November. These meteor showers are the best times to observe shooting stars, sometimes up to 50 or 60 per hour.

Caused by dust and small particles burning to enter the dense atmosphere of Earth, you can see shooting stars any time of year when less frequent patterns.

Since the middle of the night offers the best opportunities for observation during the rainy season meteor may be a special gift for awakening the children in and out during what would normally be your bedtime. The local weather stations and the Internet are the best sources of information for when meteor showers will occur in your area.

Find some constellations

Constellations are groupings of stars that seemed like old people, animals and creatures that were familiar. Today, people still go through the form of the constellations appear to be aligned.

Armed with a book on the stars at night or some information from the Internet, many of the constellations are easy to detect. Orion and Ursa Major are also some of the most easily recognized.

Look Ursa Major

The Big Dipper, also known as Ursa Major or Big Bear, "is an important constellation of navigation purposes, because the connection of two of the stars in the system always lead to Polaris, the North Star. Knowing that the media can always find north on a clear night.

The Big Dipper looks like a large spoon with a curved handle and four stars that appear in the form of cup. From our point of view in this world revolves around Polaris in the constellation throughout the night.

To find the pole star, just connect the two stars away from the handle and draw an imaginary line from the bottom of the cup to the top. The next star you should see is Polaris, the North Star. Contrary to some perceptions, not glowing. But it is very consistent in its location.

Discovering the Milky Way

Especially on summer nights, the Milky Way, our galaxy, appears to extend across the night sky as a milky cloud. But this cloud consists of millions of stars.

To see the Milky Way, is almost better to look near, but not in the true sense of the galaxy. So your eyes will be better able to pick up the contrast between the darkness of space and the soft glow of that sea of stars.

These are just five tips for stargazing fun night with your children. It is always a time to share his thoughts about the vastness of space, the wonder of creation and the beauty of heaven. Just realize that most of the stars we see are hundreds, even thousands of light years so that some may have disappeared despite its light continues to travel to the earth is enough for a young mind to take note.

So take a few minutes and spend time tonight with their children, looking at the sky and be amazed by its splendor.

Any advice on what to buy telescope for beginners?

this is for an older child with an interest in astronomy and has to be a reasonable price (Christmas)

Please ignore ant response. A "reflective" (reflector) telescope is used by a mirror. If that point is very basic wrong, do not follow their advice. failed to mention most of the reflectors show a "reverse" image (which are usually quickly to this.) All astronomical telescopes do. A tripod is essential (you wouldnt believe how much that moves as "still"). Your Store local chambers should be able to advise. I think a lot of encouragement is important, get some fun books too! and many have fun

Spotting Scopes Terminology - Best Spotting Scopes For Birding

Spotting Scopes Terminology

Spotting scopes are used when more magnification is needed or wanted than binoculars provide. Spotting scopes are used widely for birding, viewing wildlife and landscapes and other objects at a great distance. Much of the terminology and technical specifications specific to spotting scopes are similar to binoculars. For example, a 20-60x82 spotting scope has a zoom magnification range of 20-60x (20 to 60 times larger than the size of an image as would be seen by the naked eye) with a front lens diameter of 82mm.

The significant increased magnification of spotting scopes can take you well beyond the capabilities of conventional binoculars. That said, two factors, the atmosphere and the optical system of the spotting scope, should be kept in mind. Heavy air, dust, humidity, glare and wind and air currents during the day can all reduce image quality and the greater the magnification, the more drastic the reduction in image quality will be. Few locations allow you to use more than 60-80x during the day, so most spotting scopes stop at 60x. The optical system of a spotting scope will impact magnification also.  As magnification is increased, some decrease in image quality will result, no matter the model. In this key area, as the old saying goes...you get what you pay for.  So yes, if you want a spotting scope that is as clear and sharp at 60x magnification as it is at 20x, then expect to pay more. Keep in mind though that most spotting scopes are used at lower magnifications, usually around 30x-40x. This is more than enough for most applications and all but the least expensive and cheapest model will produce reasonable images in this magnification range.

Objective Diameter

Assuming that you are comparing two models of similar quality, the larger the objective lens, the more detail you can see and the better image quality your scope will deliver, especially at higher magnifications. However, a large lens of mediocre quality, no matter how large, will never equal the performance of a smaller, quality lens. If you aren't sure, opt for quality, not size.

Close Focus

Although not an absolute necessity, a spotting scope with a close focus of 20 ft or less can be useful, especially if you plan to use a spotting scope with a camera.

Eye Relief

As with binoculars, this is the distance your eye can be from the eyepiece and still see the entire field of view. As a general rule, you will need at least 14mm of eye relief to see the entire field of view with eyeglasses and people with thick glass lenses in their eyeglasses will probably need more.

Waterproofing

While not a necessity, a waterproof scope is terrific to have. The seals in a waterproof model also prevent the infiltration of dust and dirt and therefore add to the lifespan of the spotting scope.

Tripods

Due to its high magnification, handholding a spotting scope and expecting to maintain a clear, non-blurry image is virtually impossible. A spotting scope requires that it be supported to keep it steady. You may be able to sneak by at lower magnifications with a monopod or shoulder stock, but above 40x, you must use a tripod. And the larger and heavier the scope, the larger and heavier the tripod should be. As all spotting scopes are threaded in the same fashion as a camera and therefore should fit on any standard camera or video tripod, unless you prefer, you will not need to purchase a special tripod for your spotting scope.

Best Spotting Scopes for Birding

Most agree that the best magnification range for birding with a spotting scope is 20-40x. Much higher than 40x and the field of view is too narrow to be practical, with the added drawback of a dimmer image. Keep in mind that problems such as heat waves will increase at higher magnifications. If you do a lot of dawn or twilight bird observation, or if your area is often overcast and dim, a wider objective lens will give you a better image.  So you will  want to choose a lens of 77-82mm. However, a larger objective lens also translates to increased size and weight. Birders who are out mostly during the day and don't relish the thought of carrying a heavier instrument will want to consider an objective lens size of 60-65mm.

why are sniper scopes so long looking?

ive seen pictures of sniper scopes and wondering what that is. is it so there is no reflection from the glass? what are they called?

what you are referring to is called a sunshade, a long piece of plastic that extends past the objective lens in order to keep glare off the lens. To properly block reflection, though, you need a mesh filter that keeps sunlight from bouncing off and exposing your position. Here is an example of one of those:

What is the best camera lens for astrophotography?

I want to buy a camera kit and use it for astrophotography. My budget is around $1,000 Australian dollars for the actual camera body.

What are the best cameras, lenses and tripods you would recommend for astrophotography without using a telescope?

First I would like to start with planets, and then try nebulae.

And also, are there any specific brands that are best for this, and why?

Thanks for any advice :)
Which lens would you use for planets, and which would you use for nebulae? :)

people usually use their DSLR and a modified telescope to do such things. Ordinary lenses won't be able to reach that far into the space.

Tripod... there are specialized tripod to do astrophotography - but it's kinda expensive and quite complex to operate because in astrophotography you're going to need to adjust your camera to follow the earth's rotation.

Nebulae... well I doubt you can reach that far except if you have a large telescope such as found in observatories.

Good luck though.

Hid Kits are a Great Modification for Your Vehicle

HID kits are designed to produce more light than stock bulbs and headlights. These kits come with all the necessary parts you need to replace your factory installed headlights with more powerful and robust lights. HID is an acronym for High Intensity Discharge. The kits are composed of three parts: starters, ballasts and bulbs. There are many advantages of these kits and one of most prominent of these benefits is that these lights consume very less power. As a result, more power can be utilized for other operations and hence an overall smoother and more enjoyable ride can be realized.

HID lights provided by the aftermarket car parts industry are very easy to install. They are manufactured to receive amplified power from the ballast unit and therefore produce high intensity light. It is a known fact that these headlights produce up to 3 times more light than ordinary stock headlights that come with halogen bulbs. Another interesting fact in this regard is the improvement in night vision. HID headlights are much more powerful than ordinary headlights and therefore they are perfect for night driving. These kits also come handy in fierce weather conditions like rainstorm and fog.

High quality HID kits are designed to be shockproof as well as waterproof. That is why they last for a long time. Modern HID headlights require only 35 Watt power which is very less as compared to power requirement of halogen bulbs. The overall design and functionality is optimized in these headlights to make them suitable for all car makes and models. As these kits produce more light and also have increased life, they can be a perfect modification for your car. They provide efficient long-term maintenance and are also quite easy to install.

HID lights are available in a range of different colors. Some car enthusiasts out there simply want to install these lights because of the cool colors they produce. The brightness of these lights is measured in K or Kelvin units which are used for the measurement of temperature. Different temperatures produce different colors. It is up to you to select the range of colors you want in your headlights. Normally the colors are blue, purple, orange, yellow and white. 5000K to 12,000K is the normal range of temperature these bulbs come in. The intensity of this light is according to the traffic rules and therefore these headlights are safe to be used.

HID kits come in many different styles. They are specifically designed for different car models. Before buying a kit, make sure you have specified your exact car make, model and year to locate an appropriate kit for your vehicle. You can choose among four types of HID headlight kits: single beam, telescope, bi-xenon and hi/lo beam. All these kits come with different features and it depends on your requirements what type of kit will be best suited to your needs and budget. Since these kits are very popular all over the world, many renowned manufacturers produce state-of-the-art, robust HID conversion kits for their customers.

You can also buy individual parts of HID headlights to improve the performance of your factory installed kits. However, to avoid getting into trouble it is advisable to buy an entire kit which is not very expensive at all. Different types of kits for your car can be found online in a matter of seconds. Your kit should include an instructions booklet to help you throughout the process of installation. In addition to this, it should also come with a decent warranty period. These measures can be used to determine the quality and worth of an HID conversion kit.

What would a 5 year old boy want for Christmas from his cousins?

i need to get my cousin, he's 5, a gift for a Christmas thing. they live in new york, so they only come to visit once in a while (that's why our family Christmas is so late). what would he want?

he likes making videos, coloring, and drawing, BUT we got his sister like a $70 gift, so we don't wanna just get him coloring books and an art kit. We don't want to get him a camera, because he is still young and could break it easily. He has a bike. And computer games. And clothes. but, what do you think he would want from us?

My mom said that he might like a telescope, but then again, it might be too complicated.he likes transformers, the movie cars, and Thomas the train, but his parents have a lot of money, so he has like all of that stuff. please and thank you!

You could get him the kid tough camera or video camera. He can drop it or even throw it and it wont break. Some can even go in water without anything happening to it. You could also buy a plastic container and fill it with a bunch of craft supplies or a drawing table.

But at some point, desires can become unreasonable. That usually leads to trouble... Self-satisfaction alone cannot determine if a desire or action is positive or negative... I think excessive desire leads to greed... When you reflect upon the excesses of greed, you'll find that it leads an individual to a feeling of frustration, disappointment, a lot of confusion, and a lot of problems... Although the underlying motive is to seek satisfaction, the irony is that even after obtaining the object of your desire, you are still not satisfied. The true antidote of greed is contentment.”

You Can Foster a Love of Astronomy

If you ask a lot of kids if they enjoy science a good portion of them will make a face or tell you that it is not their favorite subject. Despite the disinterest in science for a lot of children, we can and should foster a love of astronomy in children. In fact, it is often easier to introduce children and foster this interest than one might think! Once you get kids started, they often cannot get enough of astronomy! When you work with kids on this subject you will find that you can almost see their minds expanding.

If you tell your students that you are going to teach them about astronomy you may hear a few groans of protest. Before you allow this to bring you down, ask them if they know what astronomy means. Let them know that this is not just about science, but about the planets, starts, and space in general. You may be surprised at how excited kids become, as most consider space to be very "cool".

Introducing Astronomy

You'll want to start out teaching children about the planets. You can teach them the names, show them what they look, and where they are in relation to one another as well as in relation to the earth. If you want to get them really involved, allow them to create a model of the solar system. Many kids enjoy hands on projects and this is one way that you can allow all of your students to get up close and personal with astronomy.

Students will enjoy learning about the solar system but they will likely also enjoy learning about the universe. You can teach them about the Milky Way and then you can extend these lessons out to learn more about the galaxies and nebulae and black holes. There is a lot of really interesting information that will excite children and get them thinking about astronomy a lot more than they currently do.

Luckily, there are a lot of great books and films available that can help you teach your students about astronomy. Many of them teach about the planets, stars, the sun, and even the history of astronomy. There are truly unlimited resources that will help you foster a love of astronomy in students of all ages. You can complete a unit on astronomy at a local astronomy center where you can get up close and personal with a lot of great information and resources!

Field trips in ASTRONOMY?

I'm a high school special Ed teacher in Massachusetts, and we are currently studying astronomy- mainly the planets. I would love to take my kids on a local field trip but can't find anything! NOT the science museum- they've been a million times. Maybe something that they could view space through a large telescope or something? ANy suggestions? Thanks for your help!

Hi Teach, I'm not up on field trips on your side of the pond but I hope you and the children will get some enjoyment out of these links.
