Kennedy Space Center: A destination for visitors to Orlando
There's plenty on offer in Orlando and can not see everything in one holiday without But there is an attraction not to be missed when you are in this region, and that is the Kennedy Space Center.
While the inventors of the theme parks Orlando used their imagination to conjure up all the special effects and thrill rides, the fascination of the Kennedy Space Center comes from the real achievements of the program space and the opportunity it offers for the future.
The Center has built a huge complex of exhibitions for visitors who combines space simulation rides. The new attraction is the Shuttle Launch Experience, a six-story structure architecture consistent with Space Shuttle facilities at Kennedy Space Center. As crew members ascend along the gantry, the testimonies of veterans of shuttle astronauts share, setting the stage for the experience ahead. Introduction heart the operations of the Space Shuttle pre-launch briefing, crew members are guided by veteran Space Shuttle Commander Charlie Bolden, as he takes you step by step through the shuttle launch sequence. S This is the simulation that gives you a feeling of real experience.
If you want to see real rockets and space vehicles, then you should visit the rocket garden. Here visitors can see the Redstone, Atlas and Titan rockets NASA astronauts launched into space. You can see inside the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo capsules have an idea of the narrowness of U.S. astronauts pioneers endured.
But why settle for just seeing the rockets, where you can also meet an astronaut? Less than 500 men and women - to six billion inhabitants of the Earth - have ever flown in space, but all day at Kennedy Space Center, guests have the rare opportunity to a member the real-life NASA astronauts corps.
Speaking of astronauts, while you are at the Centre can also visit the Monument to the U.S. and astronaut Astronaut Hall of Fame. The monument honors the 24 U.S. astronauts astronaut who gave their lives for space exploration and Hall of Fame combines exhibitions with interactive attractions which give a true taste of space. The G-Force Trainer lets you feel the pressure of four times the force of gravity and you can also experience what it feels like walking on the moon or a ride in a vehicle through the rocky terrain of Mars. You can even try your hand at guiding the space shuttle for a soft landing.
Did you movies like science? Then visit the IMAX ® theater in the Center. The dream of spaceflight comes alive with a wall of sound, five-story screen and realistic 3D special effects. Dramatic footage shot by NASA astronauts during actual missions will make you feel like you're floating right next to them.
If the day comes right, you do not have to watch a movie, you can see the real thing! You can see the shuttle launch satellite launch, or even a deep space probe closely. The space center's website has a calendar of upcoming releases.
If you have any child who is fascinated through space, then the Kennedy Space Center is the place to visit, and if you yourself are enthusiastic about the progress of mankind in space it plans to spend a day here.

If a spacecraft were in deep space between the stars, whould the surface of this ship can freeze?
I see many films like Star Wars, aliens, star trek, etc. .. just to name a few, traveling in deep space from one star to the other. They allways look clean and free of ice, Is this true or if these spacecraft to be covered by a thick layer of ice?, Since they are so far from any heat source. I do not know whether the spacecraft need to generate heat on the side of outside to look like in the movies. I know the space shuttle has to turn toward the sun to keep the shuttle from freezing on the dark side.
The outer surface of the skin of a spacecraft in deep space to be followed by thermodynamics. 1. Heat will be lost due to radiation completely agree with Stefan-Boltzmann Law The total amount of radiation emitted by the spacecraft to its temperature above the temperature of the space (about 3 K - absolute close to zero). E = k T * ^ 4 where: - k = Stefan-Boltzmann constant - T is the temperature difference, and for all practical purposes is the temperature outside of the ship. - NOTE: this assumes that the spacecraft "the skin looks" like a "black body." Other factors that can make this process more or less efficient (To make the spacecraft appear to be more or less like a black body), ie, painting the outside white or black, using metal plates that radiate / absorb only certain wavelengths, etc. 2. Will gain heat generated inside the spacecraft is underway and by convection to the outer skin and skin through the material. If the heat coming from inside is greater than the heat radiated back into space, then the temperature will be greater than the background temperature of space (3 K). Ideally, you want to keep the outside temperature hot enough to keep the metal joints failing (due to the expansion / contraction) but not too hot that you are losing valuable power of any power generation system you have. Sometimes the waste heat generated by electronics is sufficient to maintain the exterior of not getting too cold. Sometimes the waste heat is too much, and should be used efficiently radiating purpose (almost black) radiators. Sometimes the waste heat from electronics and other domestic sources is not enough, so heaters must be used to keep the spacecraft from getting too cold ..

A Fire Upon The Deep (Zones of Thought)
List Price: |
DescriptionIn this Hugo-winning 1991 SF novel, Vernor Vinge gives us a wild new cosmology, a galaxy-spanning "Net of a Million Lies," some finely imagined aliens, and much nail-biting suspense. Faster-than-light travel remains impossible near Earth, deep in the galaxy's Slow Zone--but physical laws relax in the surrounding Beyond. Outside that again is the Transcend, full of unguessable, godlike "Powers." When human meddling wakes an old Power, the Blight, this spreads like a wildfire mind virus that turns whole civilizations into its unthinking tools. And the half-mythical Countermeasure, if it exists, is lost with two human children on primitive Tines World. Serious complications follow. One paranoid alien alliance blames humanity for the Blight and launches a genocidal strike. Pham Nuwen, the man who knows about Countermeasure, escapes this ruin in the spacecraft Out of Band--heading for more violence and treachery, with 500 warships soon in hot pursuit. On his destination world, the fascinating Tines are intelligent only in combination: named "individuals" are small packs of the doglike aliens. Primitive doesn't mean stupid, and opposed Tine leaders wheedle the young castaways for information about guns and radios. Low-tech war looms, with elaborately nested betrayals and schemes to seize Out of Band if it ever arrives. The tension becomes extreme... while half the Beyond debates the issues on galactic Usenet. Vinge's climax is suitably mindboggling. This epic combines the flash and dazzle of old-style space opera with modern, polished thoughtfulness. Pham Nuwen also appears in the nifty prequel set 30,000 years earlier, A Deepness in the Sky. Both recommended. --David Langford, Amazon.co.uk A Fire Upon the Deep is the big, breakout book that fulfills the promise of Vinge's career to date: a gripping tale of galactic war told on a cosmic scale.Thousands of years hence, many races inhabit a universe where a mind's potential is determined by its location in space, from superintelligent entities in the Transcend, to the limited minds of the Unthinking Depths, where only simple creatures and technology can function. Nobody knows what strange force partitioned space into these "regions of thought," but when the warring Straumli realm use an ancient Transcendent artifact as a weapon, they unwittingly unleash an awesome power that destroys thousands of worlds and enslaves all natural and artificial intelligence.Fleeing the threat, a family of scientists, including two children, are taken captive by the Tines, an alien race with a harsh medieval culture, and used as pawns in a ruthless power struggle. A rescue mission, not entirely composed of humans, must rescue the children-and a secret that may save the rest of interstellar civilization. A Fire Upon The Deep is the winner of the 1993 Hugo Award for Best Novel. The Fabric of the Cosmos: Space, Time, and the Texture of Reality
List Price: |
DescriptionAs a boy, Brian Greene read Albert Camus' The Myth of Sisyphus and was transformed. Camus, in Greene's paraphrase, insisted that the hero triumphs "by relinquishing everything beyond immediate experience." After wrestling with this idea, however, Greene rejected Camus and realized that his true idols were physicists; scientists who struggled "to assess life and to experience the universe at all possible levels, not just those that happened to be accessible to our frail human senses." His driving question in The Fabric of the Cosmos, then, is fundamental: "What is reality?" Over sixteen chapters, he traces the evolving human understanding of the substrate of the universe, from classical physics to ten-dimensional M-Theory. Assuming an audience of non-specialists, Greene has set himself a daunting task: to explain non-intuitive, mathematical concepts like String Theory, the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, and Inflationary Cosmology with analogies drawn from common experience. For the most part, he succeeds. His language reflects a deep passion for science and a gift for translating concepts into poetic images. When explaining, for example, the inability to see the higher dimensions inherent in string theory, Greene writes: "We don't see them because of the way we see like an ant walking along a lily pad we could be floating within a grand, expansive, higher-dimensional space." For Greene, Rhodes Scholar and professor of physics and mathematics at Columbia University, speculative science is not always as thorough and successful. His discussion of teleportation, for example, introduces and then quickly tables a valuable philosophical probing of identity. The paradoxes of time travel, however, are treated with greater depth, and his vision of life in a three-brane universe is compelling and--to use his description for quantum reality--"weird." In the final pages Greene turns from science fiction back to the fringes of science fact, and he returns with rigor to frame discoveries likely to be made in the coming decades. "We are, most definitely, still wandering in the jungle," he concludes. Thanks to Greene, though, some of the underbrush has been cleared. --Patrick O'Kelley From Brian Greene, one of the world’s leading physicists and author the Pulitzer Prize finalist The Elegant Universe, comes a grand tour of the universe that makes us look at reality in a completely different way.Space and time form the very fabric of the cosmos. Yet they remain among the most mysterious of concepts. Is space an entity? Why does time have a direction? Could the universe exist without space and time? Can we travel to the past? Greene has set himself a daunting task: to explain non-intuitive, mathematical concepts like String Theory, the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, and Inflationary Cosmology with analogies drawn from common experience. From Newton’s unchanging realm in which space and time are absolute, to Einstein’s fluid conception of spacetime, to quantum mechanics’ entangled arena where vastly distant objects can instantaneously coordinate their behavior, Greene takes us all, regardless of our scientific backgrounds, on an irresistible and revelatory journey to the new layers of reality that modern physics has discovered lying just beneath the surface of our everyday world.
