If a spacecraft were in deep space between the stars, whould the surface of this ship can freeze?

I see many films like Star Wars, aliens, star trek, etc. .. just to name a few, traveling in deep space from one star to the other. They allways look clean and free of ice, Is this true or if these spacecraft to be covered by a thick layer of ice?, Since they are so far from any heat source. I do not know whether the spacecraft need to generate heat on the side of outside to look like in the movies. I know the space shuttle has to turn toward the sun to keep the shuttle from freezing on the dark side.
