Lumicon 1.25 Lumicon 1.25" Oxygen III narrow bandpass Filter for 1.25"

List Price: $140.00

Description

The renowned, original Lumicon OIII narrow bandpass filter (11nm) isolates just the two doubly-ionized oxygen lines (496 and 501nm lines) emitted by planetary and emission nebulae, while blocking the rest of the overall spectrum of light. The result is extreme contrast between the black background of space and the delicate photons of OIII light needed for near-photographic views of the Veil, Ring, Dumbbell and Orion nebulae, among other objects. See for yourself -- it's truly amazing what the OIII filter allows you to see! Lumicon tests every filter individually on a Perkin-Elmer Double-Beam spectrophotometer, inscribing on the filter its % transmission for each of the primary lines. Knowing your Different Camera filters

When I was a newbie I always wonder why a efficiently taken picture can give the impression of being so full of impact. I wanted to take a picture that have colors are bright or a sunset that almost feels humid, a sky that is so lucid and blue or even a portrait shot that look so mild and soft.

The secret behind this professionally taken picture is the smart use of the filters. A lens filter in film photography is attached to the front of a lens. The illumination of light passing to the camera is affected by the filter and these results to different effects in the ending image. The D-SLR cameras still uses physical filters and this allows for better manage of the effects of the filters.

If you are using a DSLR camera, here are few descriptions of some general photography filters that you can apply to generate exciting effects

If you are using a camera with threaded lens, a UV filter will be approximately necessary to keep on your camera all the time. It is a colorless filter and its function is to maintain the ultraviolet light and dropping the atmospheric haze to capture the images clearly.

Polarising filter gives you deep, rich and high contrast colors. The polarizing filter removes out the reflections by preventing light from a specific angle from passing through to the camera’s film. It enhances the image by deepening the colors and it’s also useful in shooting through surface of water and glasses which are reflective.

ND filters or natural density filters reduces the amount of light that passes the camera’s sensor without touching/affecting anything else such as color. This allows you to create special effects such as slow shutter speed.  The ND filter is useful if you want to balance the light approaching from the sky. With ND filter, it reduces the amount of light and slow shutter speed to create effects

Every now and then your films can appear dry on a cloudy day. Your camera may capture an image that can appear overwhelming. Warming filters help to add a little warmth for a more desirable effect. Sometimes strong warming filters can give that additional touch to a bright sunset.

Cooling filters is the opposite of warm filters and are less or frequently used by us photographers.  Cooling filters add saturation and impact to a boring sky. A Blue filter can give you a cool, cloudy morning feeling

The  Soft-Filter are less common filters which is great for portraiture, Intensifying Filter increases the individual color saturation and Infrared Filters increases the special effects of infrared energy to create strange light effects especially on green foliages

Marumi "Deep Sky" Filter?

Did Marumi ever make a "Deep Sky" filter for astrophotography? I see one being offered as "58mm Marumi Deep Sky Filter" in an online classified advertisment. No one I have talked to is familiar with it. Does anyone know about it and how it worked?

websearch for "deep sky filter" specification yields:

http://www.company7.com/optec/graphics/filter_graphs/17266.gif

Which looks like an all-pass that blocks blue-green

see: http://www.starlightccd.com/prodserv/filters.php for more information.

Orion AstroView 90mm Equatorial Refractor Telescope Orion AstroView 90mm Equatorial Refractor Telescope

Sale Price: $299.99

Description

Orion’s AstroView 90 equatorial refractor telescope is a classic Achromatic refractor with excellent optics and an unusually good accessory package. Bigger and more impressive than it looks in pictures, the AstroView 90 is an adult size telescope that stands nearly five feet high and weighs almost 25 pounds. With fully illustrated instructions the telescope is easy to assemble, and the package includes two Sirius Plossl eyepieces, a 6x30 optical finder scope, and Orion’s Starry Night planetarium software for your computer. Refractors are known for their crisp, high contrast views of the Moon and planets and the AstroView 90 delivers sharp views right out of the box. The low power 25mm Sirius Plossl eyepiece (36X magnification) nicely frames the moon, while the high power 10mm eyepiece (91X magnification) delivers a crisp close up image full of detail. The sharp Achromatic optics of the AstroView 90 EQ also give me delightful views of deep space objects. On a moonless night I like the way the 25mm eyepiece frames the ghostly glow of the Orion Nebula. Zooming in with the 10mm Sirius Plossl eyepiece, I can easily pick out all four stars of the Orion Nebula’s embedded quadruple star the Trapezium. Another night I used an Ultima 2X Barlow with the 10mm plossl eyepiece for a total magnification of 182X while viewing the planet Jupiter. I was rewarded with a clear view of Jupiter’s famous Great Red Spot. The Equatorial mount included with the AstroView 90 EQ is designed to help track stars and planets at high power. When I set up the telescope, I simply point the polar axis at Polaris, the North Star. This makes it easy to keep celestial objects in the field of view by turning one slow motion knob. Orion also offers the EQ-2M Electronic Telescope Drive which features a battery powered motor for automatic tracking. The EQ-2 equatorial mount is a little wobbly when the legs are fully extended, but that’s normal for any large telescope in this price range. With excellent optics, classic design, and a very good accessory package, Orion‘s AstroView 90 Equatorial Refractor is an excellent introduction to the world of Astronomy. --Jeff Phillips Pros: Classic refractor design Crisp clear views of the Moon and planets Two Sirius Plossl eyepieces and 6x30 finder Starry Night planetarium software included Cons: Equatorial mount wobbles a bit while focusing First quarter Moon shot at 36x with Powershot camera First quarter Moon shot at 90X with Powershot camera. Crater Ptolemeaus shot at 350X with NexImage camera and Ultima barlow. Planet Jupter shot at 350X with NexImage camera and Ultima barlow.

Now you can have the virtues of refractor-sharp images without having to break into your piggy bank. Our remarkable AstroView 90 gives big returns for a small investment! This is a powerful refractor featuring a multi-coated 90mm objective lens of 910mm focal length (f/10) housed in an enameled aluminum tube. You won't have any trouble gathering enough light for bright, crisp views of deep-sky objects, the Moon, and planets. Even better, we've upgraded the AstroView 90 package with two Sirius Plossl eyepieces (25mm and 10mm)! The AstroView 90 comes equipped with a 6x30 finder, 90-deg star diagonal, adjustable aluminum tripod with accessory tray, and an EQ-2 equatorial mount with slow motion controls for manual tracking.(An optional EQ-2M drive system can be added for automatic, hands-free tracking.) One-year limited warranty.

Features

  • A powerful, high-quality refractor telescope at a jaw-dropping low price
  • 90mm (3.5") aperture and 910mm focal length for crisp views of deep-sky objects, the Moon, and planets
  • Included EQ-2 adjustable tripod and equatorial mount for manual slow-motion celestial tracking
  • Includes two Sirius Plossl 1.25" eyepieces (25mm and 10mm), 6x30 finder scope, smooth-adjusting 1.25" rack & pinion focuser, 90-degree mirror diagonal for comfortable nighttime performance, Starry Night astronomy software, and more
  • Can also be used for pleasing daytime terrestrial viewing with a correct-image diagonal (correct-image diagonal sold separately)

Amazon.com Review Celestron's Nexstar 8 SE telescope combines excellent optics and computerized "GoTo" tracking in a package that's light, portable and affordable. The legendary performance of Celestron's orange tube C8 telescope has been updated with high performance Starbright XLT coatings, and the single arm Nexstar mount now includes Celestron's easy to use "SkyAlign" technology. Jupiter as seen through the Celestron NexStar 8SE special-edition computerized telescope. The Nexstar 8 SE upholds Celestron's reputation for quality optics. When I use an 11mm Plossl eyepiece (almost 200x magnification) for example, I can easily see the Cassini Division in Saturn's rings. When I look at Jupiter, the pale orange color of Jupiter's famous Great Red Spot is visible, and I've even been able to identify the polar caps and spot dust storms on the planet Mars. A 20mm Plossl eyepiece (about 100x magnification) is a good choice for viewing galaxies and star clusters. When I look at globular cluster M13 in the constellation Hercules the high contrast XLT optics show me a glowing snowflake made of hundreds of tiny pin-point stars! And a low power 32mm Plossl eyepiece is a good choice for views of larger deep space highlights like the Andromeda Galaxy and the Orion Nebula. The moon seen through the Celestron NexStar 8SE telescope.(See larger image.) Celestron's patented "SkyAlign" system makes the Nexstar 8 SE very easy to use. I just pick the nearest town from the built-in list, enter the date and time, and point the telescope at three bright stars. I don't need a star chart because "SkyAlign" identifies the stars for me. When I just want a quick look at the moon or a planet, I like to use the "Solar System Align" option. After entering the date and time, I just point the telescope at the moon and press the "Align" key. That's all it takes, the computer takes over and the telescope begins tracking quietly and accurately. At star parties I often have my Nexstar up and running while older computerized telescopes are still waiting for their alignment stars to appear in the twilight. The Nexstar 8 SE comes with a simple red-dot finder scope and a basic 25mm eyepiece. You'll want to add a few good eyepieces to take full advantage of the Nexstar 8 SE's excellent optics. At the very least get Celestron's bargain priced Accessory Kit which includes high and low power plossl eyepieces, or treat yourself to some top rated Tele Vue eyepieces. At twenty-four pounds total weight, the Nexstar 8 SE is unusually light and portable for an eight-inch telescope. The drawback of course is that some people will find it too light. Like other Schmidt Cassegrain (SCT) telescopes there are plenty of optional accessories to upgrade this telescope with, such as heavy duty tripods and an optical finder scope. If you want to try astro-photography, however, check out Celestron's CPC 800 Telescope which features a heavy duty mount and tripod and an 8x50 optical finder scope right out of the box. --Jeff Phillips Pros: Excellent optics Easy computerized GoTo tracking Light, portable and affordable Cons: Plastic accessories Short battery life Too light for astro-photography

Features

  • 8-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, StarBright XLT high transmission coatings come standard
  • StarPointer finderscope to help with alignment and accurately locating objects
  • Quick-release fork arm mount, optical tube and accessory tray for no-tool setup
  • SkyAlign allows you to align on any three bright celestial objects, making for a fast and easy alignment process

Orion SkyQuest XT8 Classic Dobsonian Reflector Telescope Orion SkyQuest XT8 Classic Dobsonian Reflector Telescope

Sale Price: $489.00

Description

The Orion XT series (available in 4.5", 6", 8", and 10") includes some of my favorite entry-level telescopes, and I recommend this one, the 8", most of all. It's well-made, has very good optics, is relatively cheap, isn't too big or too small, and has a nice look. It features an 8" mirror that gathers enough light to do serious work. The mount is a simple alt-az ("altitude-azimuth," a fancy term that simply means "up-down-left-right") design. There is no automated tracking mechanism. When the object in your field of view starts to go out of sight, you simply push to scope along to re-center it. This may sound inconvenient, but the axes are very smooth and responsive to the touch. To maintain tension, the altitude axis ("up-down") uses an innovative spring system. The springs also allow one hardy and ambitious individual to pick up and move it with one hand (the scope weighs 42 lbs.) A 6X30 finder scope is included to help you get oriented, as well as two eyepieces: a 25 mm Plossl (49X) and a 10 mm Plossl (121X). While these eyepieces are of decent quality, the dedicated observer will eventually want to upgrade to better eyepieces like one of Orion's own Ultrascopics. Regardless of eyepiece though, this scope will let you easily see Saturn's rings (this is something you do not want to miss, trust me), Jupiter and its four moons, dozens of named craters on the moon, and hundreds of star clusters, galaxies (wait until you see the Andromeda Galaxy) and nebulae. It'll keep you busy for years. Yes, you could go to the mall and get one of those cheap little computer-controlled gizmo telescopes. The problem is, those cute little scopes won't do any one thing well, and they don't gather enough light (the XT8's 8" mirror gathers eight to ten times as much light as those little 2"-3" scopes). If you've got a new-found interest in astronomy and want an entry-level telescope, you need look no further--although I should also point out that Orion has an excellent upgraded version of the scope called the "Intelliscope" which features the ability to locate thousands of objects by hand using a separately sold paddle-style controller. And if you can't swing the price of the XT8 Intelliscope, I recommend the slightly smaller XT6, which is also a great deal for the price. --Ed Ting Pros Great scope for the price At 8", the mirror is big enough to do serious work Includes two perfectly serviceable eyepieces Easy re-centering of objects Enough viewing power to keep you occupied for years Cons No automated tracking mechanism The serious sky watcher may need to eventually upgrade to a better eyepiece A not very portable 42 pounds

Our classic XT8 isn't just great bang for the buck, it's a veritable explosion of telescope value. It combines powerful parabolic optics with the ultimate in mechanical stability. The SkyQuest XT8 features an 8" parabolic primary mirror that will tease out detail in nebulas, resolve stars in globular clusters, and reveal subtle structure in galaxies. The enameled steel optical tube sports a 2" aluminum rack-and-pinion focuser that accepts both 2" and 1.25" eyepieces. The tube moves effortlessly on Teflon/UHMW bearings for point-and-view simplicity. Comes complete with navigation knob, 6x30 finder scope, two 1.25" Sirius Plossl eyepieces, eyepiece rack, collimation cap, and hard dust cap.

Features

  • 203mm aperture and 1200mm focal length allow you to reach deep into space for jaw-dropping images
  • The ultra-stable Dobsonian base keeps the tube perfectly balanced for point-and-view ease of use
  • Includes two eyepieces, finder scope, collimation cap, and FREE Starry Night astronomy software
  • One-year limited warranty

Find DeLorme employs several powerful search capabilities within the software. The first is a simple box called QuickSearch where you type common requests including towns, cities, lat/lons, ZIP codes, street addresses, colleges, and many more to receive the quickest possible matches. The places-of-interest search offers more advanced parameters and the advanced search is used when locating exact matches requires additional customer input. Draw Add MapNotes; draw your own circles, polygons, and squares; measure the area of your draw objects--even draw in your own roads and route on them--these are amazingly powerful draw tools for the money. Phone The Phone tab along the bottom portion of the interface allows you to create custom searches for finding either residential or business phone numbers and locations. You can search by yellow-page heading and find all the diesel repair shops and then select only the ones you'd like to display on the map. You can use the phone listings in conjunction with the XData tab to create and save custom data files for frequent retrieval. Info Right-click on the map to learn more about what's underneath your cursor. Lat/Lon, names of streets and bodies of water--even local radio station information--can be viewed in this manner. Moreover, the bottom toolbar of the software displays a continuously updated readout of what's underneath your cursor. Voice The voice tab of the software is where you train the software to recognize your voice for issuing routing and GPS commands while tracking. Ask common questions such as "How far to my next turn?" and the software answers. Microphone recommended for optimal usage. The software also reads upcoming turn information, including the time to turn, time to finish, and name of the street to turn onto. New voice settings allow you to select how far in advance of your turn you'd like to be prompted. Voice can also be turned off if you prefer. Netlink and Aerial Imagery NetLink is your online link to DeLorme for free aerial imagery now included with the Street Atlas USA 2007 versions. Select your areas of interest and download only those grids to the software. Toggle the imagery on and off in a single-screen view.
