telescope 127eq

I need help with a telescope ...?
I bought a Celestron PowerSeeker 127eq year old son Christmas present my 8. I did a little research and bought it for has a 127mm lens. But after putting together, it seems very difficult and complicated to find things, I was able to get the moon, however, thats about it. I want my son not to get discouraged, is there anyone who can point me in the right direction: 1) Is this a good telescope 2) how we can find / see planets like Saturn / Jupiter? 3) any other information would be appreciated. Thank you.
Finding the objects is the hardest thing for a beginner to do. You need to know the sky as you know your country. You know that California is west of Florida and Los Angeles is in California because the map says. You need star charts to show the positions of the stars. The stars make patterns called constellations that can become so familiar to you, Arizona and Ohio. Star charts show stars and deep sky objects (nebulae like), but the planets are moving at the constellation of the constellation of all time, so you need a set of tables or a computer program to tell you where they are today. The first source can do for you. In addition, the PowerSeeker has a equatorial mount, which is a confusing way to mount a telescope, if you're new to it (and even if you are not!). Basically the idea is that the polar axis must point to the North Star. Next, the telescope can follow the rising and setting of motion of the sky with the movement around a single axis. But you can also adjust the angle polar axis to be horizontal, allowing the telescope to move in a more natural it seems top-down and left-right kind of way. The manual that comes with it, should help. Subscribe to one of the two journals largest amateur astronomy, "Astronomy" or "Sky and Telescope" or purchase copies at the store or read in the library. "Astronomy" seems the most beginner friendly of them. You can also search the local astronomy club. Members generally I like to teach the newcomers how to do things as a point of a telescope on an equatorial mount. There is much more to astronomy than just looking through the telescope!
