Is this good telescope for a beginner?

I've been looking on Amazon for a telescope and I found this. Http: / / www.amazon.co.uk/Celestron-93604-PowerSeeker-60-Telescope/dp/B0002CTZAC/sr=1-1/qid=1168532554/ ref = sr_1_1/026-5108930-8127640? ie = UTF8 & s = electronics is the first one I'll never buy, it's okay for a beginner? If not, What would you recommend? Or what should I be looking, I see specs like 288x magnification. 2.3x Barlow lens, form blablablabla but everything is jargon for me.

It is acceptable to a beginner telescope. Good beginner features: lightweight, portable, easy for installation, operation is simple: point and see, nothing complicated (like motors and gears and computers ...). less interesting features (but changing them would change the price): small opening (The diameter of the main lens is what determines the amount of light going in. At 60 mm, you can not see very faint objects. In addition, the resolution (the freshness " image) is not excellent. This means that even if more specific ocular enlargement, you are simply making a blurry image larger, not more than clear. In general, unstable tripod (Wind, the slightest touch ... will cause the shaking of the image). However, it is certainly a good starting area application, since it is not too expensive and let him know what is important, lifetime mortgage. Opening: the diameter of the main lens (or mirror telescopes refractors). Determines the amount of light in. It also determines how clear the picture will appear. Enlargement: How much "bigger" will image in the eye. However, to make the image clearer. The maximum magnification in practice is less than twice the aperture in mm. For an aperture of 60 mm; an increase of 100x is probably above the practical limit. Higher than that, nothing gained and lost detail contrast and brightness (light extends over a long your retina). eye: the telescope comes with interchangeable eyepieces. This is how to control the rise. Enlargement is (approximately) for coordination duration divided between the main lens focal length eyepiece. Barlow: a lens that is inserted into the eyepiece. It has the overall effect of shortening the effective focal length (hence, increased increase). Therefore, if you have a 2x Barlow which is inserted an eyepiece of 20 mm, is like having a 10 mm eyepiece. Finderscope: the little room attached to the largest one, to help point the telescope in the right direction. Usually has a larger field of view, allowing you to move the telescope to its destination. The main telescope usually has a much smaller field of view so if you are not pointing to your goal, you do not know how to move to find it. A good search engine lets you find objects faster.

Description

In 1609, world-renowned Italian scientist, Galileo Galilei, introduced an elementary telescope to the growing astronomy community, which sparked interest into the mysterious night sky for centuries to come. Four centuries later, in celebration of the International Year of Astronomy 2009, Celestron offers the portable FirstScope Telescope. The FirstScope pays tribute to Galileo Galilei and many of history's most notable astronomers and scientists by displaying their names around the optical tube. Honoring the contributions of these men and women, who brought us one step closer to understanding the universe around us. The FirstScope is a wonderful keepsake for anyone interested in astronomy. This quality Dobsonian style telescope features a 76mm aperture reflector optical tube. FirstScope is an ideal entry-level astronomical telescope. It is very easy to observe with; you simply navigate the night sky by moving the tube in the direction of the desired object, making the viewing experience a snap! The compact design makes it easy enough to take with you on your next outdoor adventure. FirstScope is also stylish enough to be a decorative fixture on your bookshelf or desk.

Description

The Celestron 21035 Travel Scope 70 is a compact 70mm refractor telescope optimized for portability and convenience. The telescope, the tripod, and all the accessories fit conveniently into a padded backpack style soft carrying case. The complete accessory package includes a 45 degree correct image prism, a 20mm eyepiece for 20X magnification, and a 10mm eyepiece for 40X. The fully illustrated instruction manual is supplemented by a copy of "The Sky X" astronomy software that turns your PC into a virtual planetarium. With a focal length of 400mm and a focal ratio of f/5.7, the Travel Scope 70 compares surprisingly well with popular f/5 "Short Tube 80" refractors but at a much lower cost. The Travel Scope 70 uses a number of plastic components to keep the cost and weight down, including a plastic focuser and plastic lens shade, but the all glass lenses deliver beautiful views of backyard birds during the daytime and lovely views of the Moon and stars at night. The Travel Scope 70 offers daytime views that compare with more expensive spotting scopes. The 20mm eyepiece gives 20X magnification and a 2.5 degree field of view, with plenty of crisp detail when I’m looking at backyard birds. The travel Scope 70 is also quick and easy to set up at night. The deep orange glow of the recent Lunar Eclipse was simply gorgeous, and I was even able to take some pictures using the Travel Scope 70 and a PowerShot camera. When I look at Jupiter using the 10mm eyepiece (40X magnification) I can easily see four moons near the planet. And rich field views of the Milky Way are often at their best in a small scope with a wide field of view. The tripod included with the Travel Scope 70 is described as a “full size photo tripod”, but I like it best as a table-top tripod with the legs kept short. The tripod is designed to be light and compact, but that means the legs are thin and wobbly when fully extended. --Jeff Phillips Pros: Light, portable, and affordable Excellent wide field views Padded backpack style case High and low power eyepieces The Sky X software included Cons: Light weight tripod Plastic finder and focuser

This telescope was designed with traveling in mind while offering exceptional value. The Travel Scope is made of the highest quality materials to ensure stability and durability. All this adds up to a telescope that gives you a lifetime of pleasure with a minimal amount of maintenance. Featuring a compact and portable design with ample optical performance, the Travel Scope is ideal for terrestrial as well as casual astronomical observation. 70 mm (2.8) diameter refractor 400 mm focal length (f/5.7) 5x24 finderscope Photographic tripod full size 20 mm eyepiece (20x) 1.25 10 mm eyepiece (40x) Erect image diagonal 1.25 The SkyX CD-ROM Backpack holds everything Metallic charcoal black tube color
