I'm buying a telescope, but want a larger goal, what should I buy?
I'm buying the Celestron PowerSeeker 70 EQ Telescope and want to buy a lens that allows me to see detail of the planets and perhaps some deep sky objects like nebulae. What kind of lens should I buy to do this? I am a beginner like me this will be my own personal telescope and have no funds for the telescope that I really like. Can anyone give me some advice on what to buy to enable you see these things. Here's the telescope I am thinking of buying: # Any http://www.telescopes.com/telescopes/refracting-telescopes/celestronpowerseeker70eqtelescope.cfm accessories advice and counseling may help. Thanks!
1) This is a very poor choices for a first telescope. First, its opening is too small: 70 mm will not tell you much of anything. Secondly, the mounting may look good, but it will be a total nightmare to use: unstable and complicated. 2) For the same money is available a great deal of this type telescope reflector of 100 mm: http://www.telescope.com/ / product / ~ category_id = countdown / ~ = pcategory binoculars control / product_id = 09 541 ~ Spend a little more money and you can get one of these reflectors 114: http://www.telescope.com/control/telescopes/dobsonian-telescopes/orion-starblast-4 * 5-star-reflector-telescope http://www .telescope.com/control/telescopes/dobsonian-telescopes/orion-skyquest-xt4 * 5-classical "Dobsonian telescope All three have large openings and a good, solid, easy to use Dobsonian mount type. 3) A goal I think you mean "eye." The 4mm eyepiece supplied with Celestron scope and is on track to increase too much for this size of telescope. In fact, most people almost never use an eyepiece this small. The scope that I mentioned above come with better eye is most appropriate to their size, and do not include useless which makes 3x Barlow Celestron. 4) Here are some websites with good information on beginner's telescopes: http://www.gaherty.ca/tme/TME0702_Buying_a_Telescope.pdf http: / / www.scopereviews.com / Http://observers.org/beginner/jrfbeginner.html begin.html For more advanced information, read Phil Harrington's Star Ware, 4th edition (Wiley). You'll the greatest value for your money with a Newtonian reflector on a Dobsonian mount, such as: ~ = ~ = category_id http://www.telescope.com/control/category/ dobsonians pcategory / telescopes / ~ VIEW_INDEX = 0 / ~ VIEW_SIZE = 1000000 http://www.skywatchertelescope.net/swtinc/product. php? class1 = 1 & class2 = 106 buy in a store specializes in telescopes and astronomy, either locally or online, do not buy in department stores, discount stores or eBay as everything they sell is junk. Find Your local astronomy club and try out different telescopes at one of their star parties: I recommend that beginners http://www.skyandtelescope.com/community/organizations astrophotography steer clear until they have learned their way into the sky. Astro is by far the most expensive and difficult area of amateur astronomy. Many people who buy telescopes have no idea how to find interesting things to observe. A good introduction to what you find is Nightwatch by Terence Dickinson (Firefly). A more advanced book is Star Watch by Phil Harrington (Wiley).
