New 6 New 6" Short Tube Newtonian Reflector Telescope

List Price: $499.00

Description

The 150mm (6") Newtonian equatorial telescope with 1400mm focal length is the most popular size telescope for the more serious beginning or intermediate level astronomy enthusiast, and for good reason. The large light gathering power of this 6" telescope makes it ideal for deep-sky observation of galaxies, star clusters and nebulae, as well as lunar and planetary observing. This makes for a very useful and versatile instrument that can take an observer from the very first time looking through a telescope's eyepiece, through years of observing interesting subjects near and far in the night sky.

This version of the 6" Newtonian telescope offers more portability than the standard longer tube Newtonian without sacrificing power or performance. The short tube of this model is only 19" long and has a built-in correction lens, giving it all the focal length of the standard model, while reducing aberrations.

The motor drive has a variable speed control so you can speed up or slow down the right ascension tracking speed. Also, there is a North/South switch so you can use the motor either in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere, depending on where you live. This manufacturer has more than 15 years experience in the field of optical equipments Their OEM products such as telescope, microscope, riflescope, compass, etc., are all over the world. This telescope was manufactured in the very same factory that makes optical products for Bushnell, Tasco, Konus and many other name brand. This is an absolutely high quality product you can trust.

Seben Telescope

What I can do with this telescope?

I'm buying a Seben, Seben Big Boss 1400-150 Reflector Telescope. Its specifications are Open: 150mm focal Length: 1400mm (catadioptric system) fainter stars visible: 13.8 million! (More than 5,650,00 Stars visible!) Dawes Limit: 0.92 arcsec Focal Ratio: f / 9 Eyepieces: 1.25 "(31.7 mm) Magnification: 6.5mm/215-fold PL, PL 25mm/56-fold Mount: EQ3 Weight: 14.00 kg extensible for astrophotography, solar observing etc. because of their 1.25 "accessory-holes What I can do with it, I can see clearly nebulae and galaxies? Is it good to see distant objects not only the planets and stars? There is another telescope with a focal length of 1000 and the opening of 114 mm. Does this change a big problem in view of the night sky compared the top or is about the same? Is it better for viewing nebulas and galaxies? One more thing, what the focal length and aperture not telescopes. Thanks

You are at the bottom of the utility, to the extent that telescopes go. Aperture. It is the most important aspect of a telescope. Is the size of the "window" that collects light. Amateur astronomers to use a reflector telescope with an aperture of at least 8 inches (20 cm or 200 mm). Apart from having more power to capture light, are also much shorter than the range you are considering.

Description

This book is based around the author’s beautiful and sometimes awe-inspiring color images and mosaics of deep-sky objects. The book describes how similar "Hubble class" images can be created by amateur astronomers in their back garden using commercially available telescopes and CCD cameras. Subsequent processing and image enhancement in the "electronic darkroom" is covered in detail as well. A range of telescopes and equipment is considered, from the author’s 11-inch with Hyperstar camera, down to more affordable instruments. Appendices provide links to free software – not available from a single source – and are themselves an invaluable resource.

Orion Observer 70mm Equatorial Refractor Telescope Orion Observer 70mm Equatorial Refractor Telescope

List Price: $149.99
Sale Price: $129.99
You save: $20.00 (13%)

Description

This tried-and-true refractor goes the extra distance in introducing the novice to the wonders of the night sky. The Observer 70 features a 70mm fully anti-reflection coated achromatic objective lens, which provides 36% more light-gathering ability than a 60mm. Its 700mm focal length (f/10) will show you the stark beauty of the lunar surface, Saturn's rings, Jupiter's atmospheric belts, or the billowy clouds of the Orion Nebula. The included EQ-1 equatorial mount comes equipped with dual slow-motion controls for manual star tracking and adjustable aluminum tripod. Includes an EZ Finder II finder scope to help you zero in on your celestial targets, two eyepieces - 25mm (1.25") and 10mm (1.25") - and 90-deg star diagonal. One year limited warranty.

Orion’s Observer 70 EQ combines the solid optical performance of a classic achromatic refractor with a German style equatorial mount. The Observer 70 features very good optics and 36 percent more light gathering power than 60mm beginner scopes. The complete accessory package includes high and low power eyepieces, a 90 degree star diagonal, a red-dot finder, illustrated instructions, and Orion‘s Starry Night Special Edition astronomy software. The Observer 70 EQ features very good optical performance. Achromatic refractors have a two piece objective lens, the second lens element compensates for “chromatic aberration”, the false color or blue fringes seen in low cost telescopes. In daylight tests I see very little blue fringing with the standard equipment 10mm eyepiece (70X magnification), and none at all with the 25mm eyepiece (28X). Stars and planets show up very nicely with the Observer 70. The quadruple star in the Orion Nebula known as the Trapezium is cleanly split into four components with the 10mm eyepiece (70X magnification). When I combine the 10mm eyepiece with a 2X Barlow lens for 140X magnification, I’m treated to lovely views of Saturn’s rings and the little orange disk of Mars. My view of the Moon is delightfully crisp and clear; the 25mm eyepiece nicely frames the Lunar disk, and using the 10mm eyepiece I can easily see mountain peaks and terraced walls inside the crater Copernicus. The Observer 70 EQ also features an aluminum tripod and an EQ-1 equatorial mount. The equatorial mount is a little more complicated to balance and align than the Observer 70 AZ , but the reward is better slow motion control and tracking at magnifications over 100X. Simply point the equatorial axis at Polaris, the North Star, and the telescope tracks celestial objects by turning one slow motion knob. This makes it much easier to use a high power eyepiece while viewing the Moon and Planets. The “EZ Finder II” works by shining a red LED on a small window; just look through the window and line up the red spot with your target. This works OK for bright objects like the Moon and planets but not so well for finding galaxies and deep space objects. Orion’s Observer 70 EQ is simply a very good entry level telescope for a student or family. The good quality 70mm optics produce an image that is significantly sharper and brighter than 60mm beginner scopes, and the package includes a solid mount, two good eyepieces, and fully illustrated instructions. --Jeff Phillips Pros: Reliable refractor design Good views of the Moon and planets Complete accessory package Starry Night software included Cons: Finder only works for bright objects

Features

  • A great entry-level refractor telescope at a very affordable price
  • Reveals detailed views of the Moon and bright planets such as Jupiter and Saturn
  • 70mm (2.75") aperture and 700mm focal length provides great views of bright night-sky objects
  • Includes sturdy tripod and equatorial (EQ) mount for convenient manual slow-motion tracking of celestial objects
  • Includes two eyepieces, finder scope, focuser, 90-degree mirror diagonal for comfortable viewing
  • Free Starry Night astronomy software and DVD, and more!

Lunar Telescope Eyepiece

Ideal for rapid eye refractor?

Is there an "ideal" to design an APO refractor eye fast? Perhaps two design categories eyepiece is suggested: one for the field and observing DSO rich and another for high power planetary and lunar observations. But in each category, which would be the design telescope ideal for this fast?

In general, areas of rapid eye luxury need for best results. My scopes are faster by around f / 5, and produce better views with a type 4 or XW Nagler Pentax with a Erfle. Similarly, the views are much better with a TeleVue Radian with a Plossl.

1.25 1.25" Orion 13% Transmission Moon Filter

Sale Price: $19.99

Description

The Moon's disk, even at partial phases, is intensely bright with reflected sunlight. The glare washes out most of the craters, rilles, and other surface details from view. Our 1.25" Orion 13% Transmission Moon Filter reduces the glare, allowing transmission of only 13% of the reflected light. Not only will you see more surface features, but you can study them in greater comfort. The filter reduces irradiation, which is the distortion at the boundary between light and dark areas, such as along the lunar terminator. The Orion Moon Filter is especially useful to owners of large-aperture scopes, in which the Moon's brightness can be overwhelming. It uniformly reduces light over the entire visible spectrum. Screws into threaded eyepiece barrel.

Description

Celestron’s 52268 90mm Maksutov Spotting Scope delivers excellent high power optics in a compact, affordable package. The 52268 package includes a backpack style soft carrying case, an 8x21 erect image finder scope, a 1.25 inch size correct image 45* prism diagonal, and a fully coated 32mm plossl eyepiece for a magnification of 39X. The Maksutov-Cassegrain design of the C90 uses a combination of mirrors and lenses; this “folded” optical system has a focal length of 1250mm in a body only twelve inches long. The Maksutov design delivers high power views without a trace of the chromatic aberration, also called blue fringing, that can distort high power views in competing refractor style spotting scopes. At 40X magnification where some low cost spotting scopes start to seem fuzzy, the C90 is just getting started. The C90 uses the same 1.25 inch eyepieces used in astronomical telescopes. The standard equipment 32mm plossl eyepiece yields a magnification of 39X, but many other eyepieces can be used to vary the magnification. The Celestron model 52268 seems very well built, with excellent multi-coatings visible on the front lens. The real beauty of this 90mm Maksutov spotting scope, however, is in the view it offers. When I use an optional 12.5mm eyepiece to look at Jupiter at 100X I can clearly see Jupiter’s major cloud bands as well as its four moons. When I look at the Moon and stars I can easily push the magnification to 200X with an optional 6mm eyepiece. When I look at birds in the backyard, I’m treated to delightful views full of vibrant color and crisp detail. With a close focus distance of only 15 feet, the detail and texture I see is simply amazing. High magnification viewing requires a solid tripod, of course. Celestron’s Heavy Duty Altazimuth Tripod comes with slow motion controls to allow the scope to be pointed precisely, and I can clamp the dovetail base on my CG5 mount for astronomical use. The other drawback to high magnification viewing is a narrow field of view; high magnification makes it hard to follow moving targets like birds in flight. Overall the Celestron C90 Maksutov Spotting Scope does a fine job as a companion to good pair of binoculars. The C90 also doubles as a portable astronomy scope; it won’t show the flag on the Moon but it will show thousands of craters on the Moon as well as showing the moons of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn. --Jeff Phillips Pros: Compact and portable Excellent high power optics Upgradeable with 1.25” eyepieces Adaptable for astronomy and photography Cons: Not waterproof

The Maksutov optical design is recognized for being a portable design that is easy to use and has a variety of applications, making it an excellent choice for both terrestrial and astronomical usage. This C90 Mak has excellent optics with razor sharp images over a wide field, along with built-in T-adapter threads for adapting SLR cameras. It comes with a 32mm eyepiece, 45° erect image diagonal, and 8x21 erect image finderscope.

Description

Zhumell's Small Scope Eyepiece and Filter Kit includes the three upgrades a telescope owner needs most: Good eyepieces, a good Barlow lens, and filters to bring out lunar and planetary detail. Zhumell wraps up this package with a sturdy aluminum case lined with shock-absorbing die-cut foam. I've been very pleased with the sharp images of Saturn I get when using Zhumell lenses with my 8-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. I get sharp, ghost-free images, whether I'm using the 20mm plossl at 100x magnification or the 10mm plossl at 200x magnification. On a night when the air was still and clear I even had a delightful view at 400x by combining the 10mm plossl with the 2x Barlow. The Zhumell accessory kit includes a good-quality Barlow lens with fully multicoated optics. The four Plossl eyepieces include high-power 3.6mm and 6.3mm lenses, and medium-power 10mm and 20mm lenses. The filter set includes a polarizing filter, a moon filter, and five color filters. The polarizing filter is handy for reducing daylight glare, the same way you would use polarizing sun glasses. The colored filters are used to enhance the faint details visible on planets such as Jupiter and Mars. Unfortunately, there is no low-power eyepiece included, and the case has no slot to hold a low-power eyepiece if you supply your own. --Jeff Phillips Pros: Sharp plossl eyepieces Very good 2x Barlow Handy portable size Cons: No low-power eyepiece No room for expansion

Description

Description

The Orion SpaceProbe 130 EQ Reflector is a Newtonian reflector telescope packaged with a sturdy equatorial mount, two Explorer II eyepieces, a 6x30 finder scope, and Orion‘s Starry Night Special Edition software. Invented by Sir Isaac Newton, reflector telescopes provide more light gathering power per dollar than any other telescope design. With 130mm (5.1 inches) of aperture, the SpaceProbe 130 produces images that are twice as bright as 90mm telescopes and more than four times brighter than 60mm beginner scopes. The Orion SpaceProbe 130 EQ Reflector with its Explorer II eyepieces serves up bright, clear images of the Moon, the planets, and even deep space objects like star clusters and galaxies. The 25mm eyepiece magnifies the image by 36 times; when I look at the Pleiades or Seven Sisters cluster at 36X the SpaceProbe 130 shows me a bright open cluster with dozens of point-like stars filling the field of view. When I use the 10mm eyepiece (90X magnification) the lunar disk fills the field of view and the rings of Saturn are plainly resolved. And when I use an optional Ultima 2X Barlow with the 10mm eyepiece for 180X magnification I can see the cloud bands of Jupiter and pick out individual stars in bright globular clusters like M13. The EQ2 equatorial mount included with the Orion SpaceProbe 130 EQ Reflector comes partially assembled, but it shouldn’t take long to set up. The trick to using an equatorial mount is to point the polar axis at Polaris, the North Star. Once the mount is aligned and balanced, the telescope tracks stars and planets at high power with just a turn of one slow motion knob. You can even add an optional motor drive for hands free tracking. The Orion SpaceProbe 130 EQ Newtonian Reflector Telescope is a simply a great value. The Explorer II eyepieces deliver bright sharp images of the Moon, the planets and the stars, and the EQ2 mount can be motorized for hands free tracking. --Jeff Phillips Pros: More than 4 times brighter than 60mm scopes Includes two eyepieces and a 6x30 finder Solid equatorial mount and aluminum tripod Starry Night software and SkyTheatre DVD included

Description

The ETX70AT is my favorite of all the low-cost computerized telescopes, because of its compact body and also because it is so easy to use. The ETX70AT package includes everything a beginner needs to get started (except batteries). So what can you see, exactly, with this little telescope? It will show you craters on the Moon, the rings of Saturn and the moons of Jupiter. Take it with you to dark country skies and the little ETX70AT will even show you galaxies and reveal the Milky Way as a brilliant river of stars. I found the low power views with the included MA25mm eyepiece, about 14X magnification, to be sharper from edge to edge than my 15X70 binoculars. Wide-field, low-power views allow you to take in the full picture of bright star clusters like the Pleiades. The Pleiades are known as the Seven Sisters because sharp eyed people can often see seven or eight stars with the naked eye, and though I've only ever been able to make out six, with the ETX70 on a good clear night, I counted 77 stars! The low power view of a rising moon, one day past full, was simply beautiful--the lunar rays splashed out of the major impact crater Tycho sharply etched against the Maria (the lunar seas). Higher magnification with the MA9mm eyepiece did begin to reveal the optical defects that short focus achromatic refractors always show. The moon was rimmed by a bright green glow, and the craters were no longer quite as sharp. When I turned my gaze to Saturn, I could plainly see the rings and Saturn's moon Titan, using either the MA9mm (39X) or my own SP6.4mm eyepiece (55X), but the image was not as sharp as it would have been in a classic style long focus refractor. The Autostar controller makes it easy to find more than 1400 celestial objects. The Autostar computer included with the ETX70AT is simply amazing. Plug in the Autostar and the batteries, point the tube North and level, and the Autostar's easy alignment routine will pick two alignment stars and help you find them. You will still need a guide book, like Nightwatch by Terrence Dickinson, to introduce you to the bright stars by name, but this is about the only detail Meade left out of the ETX70AT package. Take Autostar's guided tour of "tonight's best," and you'll soon be looking at galaxies and star clusters. Yes, you really can see galaxies with a little telescope like this. All you need are dark skies and knowing where to look. And Autostar takes care of the "knowing where to look" part. Once the telescope is aligned, bring up M31 on the menu and press "GO TO." You'll find yourself looking at the Andromeda Galaxy, two million light years away. Even from a dark location in the country you'll see why amateur astronomers refer to galaxies as "faint fuzzies." This view of faint and fuzzy galaxies is very much the way they looked to comet hunter Charles Messier who first discovered these so called "M" objects. A surprising number of people with bigger telescopes also own one of these little ETX refractors. There's no doubt about it, a compact, computerized telescope that actually finds things for you is just plain cool. --Jeff Phillips Pros: It's easy to find objects with the Autostar computer Wide field views Cons: Planet views could be better

Let Meade high-resolution optics and revolutionary Autostar capability take you on an automated guided tour of the Solar System, the Galaxy, and beyond. Now even the most novice amateur astronomer can locate and explore the planets, galaxies, and nebulae, as well as star clusters, asteroids, and comets, all at the push of a button. The Meade ETX-70AT Astro Telescope brings the full range of celestial images to your eye with astonishing levels of clarity, resolution, and definition. Refractors This is a refractor telescope. Refractors (also known as a dioptrics) capture light with a lens at the front of a long tube and send it to an eyepiece at the other end. They look, in other words, just like what most people think of when they hear the word "telescope." Refractors offer--potentially, at least--the cleanest images of any telescope design. They are simple and reliable (the sealed tube is maintenance-free), and are good for both celestial and terrestrial viewing. Read more about different telescope designs in our buying guide All of the major planets except Pluto are easily observable through the ETX-70AT. Study Saturn and its ring system; the primary cloud belts of Jupiter as well as its four major satellites; the Moonlike phases of Mercury and Venus; prominent features on Mars; the starlike images of the distant planets Uranus and Neptune. The Moon stands out in stark, almost three-dimensional detail - craters, mountain ranges, and fault lines. In our galaxy the telescope displays hundreds of nebulae, star clusters, double and multiple stars, and variable stars - plus dozens of external galaxies in all their variations of form and structure. Terrestrial Observing The Meade ETX-70AT also makes an excellent land-view instrument for the birdwatcher, the naturalist, or for the home with a view. Image quality and resolution typically far exceed levels normally expected of terrestrial telescopes. Terrestrial observers quickly appreciate the advantages afforded by the Autostar hand controller. Using Autostar, many land objects can be readily followed, or tracked, from a distance, using one of nine selectable speeds. Optical System The ETX-70AT includes a multi-coated, achromatic objective lens of exclusive Meade design and manufactured of Grade-A crown and flint optical glass components. The lens yields razor-sharp images of astronomical and terrestrial subjects. In the optical design of ETX-70AT, light enters from the right through a 2-element objective lens and travels to a focus at the focal plane. Field stops internal to the optical tube prevent off-axis light from reaching the focal plane, thereby enhancing image contrast. The Autostar Hand Controller makes it easy The included Autostar controller permits the automatic location of over 1400 celestial objects: Solar System Planets 8 Moon 1 Asteroids 26 Comets 15 Constellation 88 Deep-Sky Named Objects 66 Galaxies 74 Diffuse Nebulae 31 Planetary Nebulae 19 Quasars 11 Caldwell Objects 109 Messier Objects 110 Stars Named Stars 79 Double Stars 395 Variable Stars 189 SAO Stars 200 Earth Satellites 50 Autostar Hand Controller For all of their advanced imaging capabilities, portability, ease of use, and contemporary cosmetic design, Meade ETX telescopes are above all uniquely defined by the revolutionary Autostar hand controller. It's easy to use: just enter the object you wish to observe on to the Autostar display, press GO TO, and watch as the telescope moves rapidly in seconds to place the object in the telescope's field of view. One observing session validates the prediction made by Sky & Telescope that "The ETX/Autostar concept will go down as the greatest happening in amateur astronomy yet." Objects stored in the Autostar's database include the entire range of celestial phenomena and are designed to keep the active observer busy for many a starlit evening. The above database listing has been specifically chosen as suitable for observing with the ETX-70AT and provides an excellent introduction to the diversity of astronomical objects visible through the telescope. In addition to its object-locating capabilities Autostar permits pushbutton centering of objects within the telescopic field at any of nine selectable speeds. Once Autostar locates an object, it directs the telescope automatically to track the object across the sky, compensating fully and precisely for the effects of the Earth's axial rotation. Ultraportable Easy to carry to any observing location, whether a distant mountaintop or your own back yard, the Meade ETX-70AT telescope brings the excitement of astronomy to users of any age. Just place the telescope on any flat surface (or use the standard-equipment field tripod), do a quick, easy alignment of the telescope's computer to the sky, and start observing. Six internal (user-supplied) AA-batteries power the ETX-70AT for about 20 hours. Features 1. Eyepiece 2. Eyepiece Holder Thumbscrew - Tightens the eyepiece in place. 3. 90° Eyepiece Holder - Holds the eyepiece upright for easy viewing. 4. Optical Tube - The main optical component that gathers the light from distant objects and brings this light to a focus for examination with the eyepiece. 5. Movable Objective Lens Cell - This component contains the telescope's lenses. The focus knob moves the cell for precise image focus. 6. Vertical Lock - Controls the manual vertical movement of the telescope. Turning the vertical lock counterclockwise unlocks the telescope enabling it to be freely rotated by hand about the vertical axis. Turning the vertical lock clockwise (to a "firm feel" only) prevents the telescope from being moved manually, but engages the vertical motor drive for Autostar operation. 7. Fork Arms - Hold the optical tube in place. 8. Focus Knob - Moves the telescope's objective lens (5, Fig. 1) in a finely-controlled motion to achieve precise image focus. The ETX-60AT and ETX-70AT telescopes can be focused on objects from a distance of about 17 ft. to infinity. Rotate the focus knob clockwise to focus on distant objects, and counterclockwise to focus on nearby objects. 9. Horizontal Lock - Controls the manual horizontal rotation of the telescope. Turning the horizontal lock counterclockwise unlocks the telescope, enabling it to be freely rotated by hand about the horizontal axis. Turning the horizontal lock clockwise prevents the telescope from being rotated manually, but engages the horizontal motor drive for Autostar operation. 10. Computer Control Panel A. Handbox (HBX) Port for the Autostar coil cord. B. LED - The red power indicator light illuminates when power is supplied to the Autostar handbox and to the telescope's motor drive. C. ON/OFF Switch - Turns the Computer Control Panel and Autostar ON or OFF. D. Auxiliary (AUX) Port - Provides connection for current and future Meade accessories, such as the Meade AstroFinder Software with Cable Connector Kit, which allows you to control your ETX from a PC. 11. Base Housing - Supports the telescope for placement on a flat, level surface, such as a tabletop or optional tripod. 12. Holes for Optional Tripod (not shown, on the bottom plate). 13. Right Ascension (R.A.) Setting Circle. 14. and 15. Cellback containing Flip-Mirror and Flip-Mirror Control Knob - ETX telescopes include an internal mirror. 16. Photo Port - Attach any 35mm camera with a removable lens to this port using an optional #64ST T-Adapter or attach the #933 Erecting Prism for correctly oriented images through the eyepiece. 17. Declination (Dec) Setting Circle (on left fork arm). 18. Autostar with attached coil cord. 19. Dust Cap. 20. Battery Compartment.

The Meade ETX-70AT brings home technology that would seem far-fetched even in speculative future-fiction. Experience push-button astronomy as high-resolution Meade optics, combined with the incredible Autostar controller take you on an automated guided tour of the Solar System, the Galaxy, and beyond. Description

Astro-imaging is an immensely rewarding hobby, but the challenges involved can seem difficult to beginners. Some of the best objects to start on are the planets of our own solar system and the Moon. Big, bright targets like Jupiter, Saturn, Mars and the Moon make wonderful models as they strut their way around the Sun on their celestial catwalk. The planets are relatively easy to locate and identify in the night sky, so solar system objects prime imaging targets for all astro-imagers. The Orion StarShoot Solar System Color Imager IV is equipped with features that make it easy to take your own images of objects in our solar system. Its 1/3-inch format CMOS imaging sensor with a 1280 x 1024 pixel layout can take sharply detailed planetary and lunar images. Each pixel is a mere 3.6µm x 3.6µm in size for exceptional image resolution in 24-bit RGB color. Since the 8-bit output StarShoot Solar System Color Imager IV is progressive scan, all pixels will be used for each and every exposure. At full 1280 x 1024 resolution, you can capture up to 15 frames per second. By stacking multiple exposures to create a single picture, you can increase image detail significantly.

Features

  • Now compatible with Apple computers and laptops! Included software is now Mac OS X compatible, as well as Windows 7, Vista (32 bit & 64 bit), and XP operating systems
  • Our fourth generation planetary imaging camera provides an affordable way to acquire stunning astrophotos of our neighbors in the solar system

Orion DSI StarShoot questions!?

StarShoot Orion is better than a color DSI Meade DSI Pro, for the price I am getting the StarShoot for $ 350 used color and the DSI Pro is 499! I will use with my Celestron C8-S-GT equations. mounted in Pittsburgh. I'm fairly new to astrophotography and want a CCD and are made for astrophotography compared to DSLRs. If you have any imput would be great.

Hello. It depends on what will be photographed. Stars, when focused properly, do not show the exact color of the fact that all the light falling on a single pixel. If that happens to be a red pixel of the star will appear in red. For a nebula this is not a problem. I would look for sensitivity. It probably needs some filters to break down light pollution. Good luck!

The Celestron NexImage Solar System Imager is a complete CCD solar system imager capable of producing high quality planetary images with greater light sensitivity and color fidelity than comparable CMOS imagers. -- The NexImage, along with the NexImage software package, can bring out tremendous detail and reveal a final image that will rival those taken with astronomical CCD cameras costing thousands of dollars more. -- **View and capture live video on your computer screen -- **Software automatically filters out video frames most affected by poor atmospheric "seeing" leaving only the sharpest, clearest frames to be stacked and aligned into one high quality image -- **Easy to follow quick start instructions and tutorial with sample video file that will have you producing quality images your first night out -- ** -- Camera control software allows you to manually change the gain, contrast, exposure time, frame rate and color saturation using your PC -- With the 1.25" adapter barrel, the NexImage is compatible with most any telescope. In addition, the 1.25" adapter is threaded for standard eyepiece filters and can be removed and replaced with optional focal reducer lens, adding greater versatility. --

Amazon.com Review Celestron's NexImage combines a sensitive CCD imaging device with powerful image processing software in one affordable package. Now anyone with a telescope can take pictures that are simply amazing. An image of Jupiter taken with the Celestron NexImage Solar System Imager Amateur astronomers have been taking great pictures of the moon and planets by using modified Webcams. The favored Webcams for astro-imaging have been the hard-to-find Philips ToUCam and Vesta models because of their high-performance CCD chips. Now Celestron's Neximage puts the same CCD technology in a package that's ready to use with any telescope that accepts 1.25-inch eyepieces. The NexImage includes an anodized metal nosepiece that fits in a 1.25-inch eyepiece holder. When I installed the Windows based software, I also updated my Windows Media Player files. Then I simply plugged the NexImage into my computers' USB port, and I was ready to start taking pictures. The NexImage CCD is sensitive enough that I can take "snapshots" of the Moon or Sunspots (always use a safe Solar filter, of course!) even without a motor-driven telescope. The real power of the NexImage package, however, comes from its included Registax software which automatically aligns and stacks hundreds of individual AVI video frames into one sharp, highly detailed picture. I used my 8-inch Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope (similar to the Nexstar 8 GPS ) and my 2x Ultima Barlow lens to capture some beautiful pictures of Jupiter and Saturn. The sensitive Sony CCD chip in the NexImage easily shows color and detail on Jupiter that just doesn't show up when I use CMOS-based Webcams. The fine performance of the NexImage package is limited somewhat by its included video capture software. The AmCap software doesn't give me the precise control of exposure times I'd like; I wasn't able to photograph the moon Callisto next to Jupiter, for instance, without overexposing the planet. Celestron doesn't mention the other little drawback in its ads. You'll have so much fun that your hard drive will start filling up with pictures and AVIs! --Jeff Phillips Pros: Sensitive CCD chip Fits any telescope that takes 1.25-inch eyepieces Powerful image processing software Cons: Takes practice to get the exposure time just right Software is Windows only You'll fill up your hard drive with pictures

  • Features a 1/3" format color CMOS imaging chip with a very small 3.6microns x 3.6microns pixel size for exceptional resolution

The first telescope is a toy, with the worst eye as possible, and the second area is even cheaper. telescopes capable of giving decent items acceptable view of the moon, planets and galaxies brighter nebulae and start around $ 200, so save your money for a real telescope or buy a pair of 7x50 binoculars. If you are just starting, binoculars are an excellent choice. Since you are looking straight at the sky and see a direct image with wide field of view, it is much easier to become familiar with the sky than it would with a telescope, and many observers use both.

Description

Binoculars come in a wide range of shapes and sizes these days, and an even wider range of prices. It's easy to spend less than $100 or more than $500 for what may appear to be, at least outwardly, comparable models. While they may look the same, they are probably quite different on the inside. Recently, the binocular market has seen a flood of giant binoculars at prices that were unheard of just a few years ago. In general, giant binoculars are defined as those that magnify the view 10 times or more and have 70-mm or larger front (objective) lenses. It used to be that the least expensive giant binoculars cost in excess of $150, even $200. All that changed not long ago, when the bottom fell out of the price cellar. Now, several companies import giant binoculars that sell for half that, or less. Celestron's 15x70 SkyMaster binoculars are one of the leaders in the low-price giant binocular arena. They certainly sound good on paper. The SkyMasters include multicoated optics and BaK-4 internal prisms, two features that promise brighter, better images, and key points to look for when judging a pair of binoculars. They also come with an adapter for attaching them to a photo tripod, which is a must to use them to their fullest, and a soft carrying case. But just because they are cheap doesn't always mean they are worth the price. Would it be better to save up for a more expensive pair? To find the answer, I had an opportunity recently to judge the SkyMasters against a pair of Fujinon 16x70 FMT-SX binoculars , one of the finest pairs of giant binoculars sold today. Like the SkyMasters, the Fujinons feature BaK-4 prisms, but also have fully multicoated optics. As a general rule, superior coatings mean superior image sharpness and contrast. But then, that should be expected, given that the Fujinons cost many times more than the Celestrons. While the Fujinons were clearly the better performer, the Celestron SkyMasters held up admirably. Image brightness, quality, and contrast were all remarkable considering their bargain price. Although images were a little soft across the outer 25% of the Celestron's field, the overall view was impressive nonetheless. Some inexpensive binoculars have very sloppy focusing, causing the eyepieces to tilt and shift. Not so with the SkyMasters. I found that their center-focusing mechanism worked smoothly, with no apparently backlash or wobble. Eye relief (the distance you hold your eyes away from the eyepieces to see the full field) is stated to be 18 mm, a good distance for higher power binoculars and an important consideration if you must wear glasses when viewing. The SkyMasters are also light enough to support by hand for short periods of time, although buyers would be well advised to mount them on a sturdy photo tripod. The bottom line is, if you are considering a pair of giant binoculars, whether for bird watching, stargazing, or another recreational use, and have a limited budget, Celestron's giant 15x70 SkyMasters represent an excellent value. --Phil Harrington, author of Star Ware and Star Watch Pros: Exceptional value for the price Light enough to support by hand BaK-4 prisms Multicoated optics Cons: Outer 25% of the field is soft and a little blurry Requires a tripod to use for extended periods

Celestron and ;s SkyMaster Series of large aperture binoculars are a phenomenal value for high performance binoculars ideal for astronomical viewing or for terrestrial (land) use - especially over long distances. Each SkyMaster model features high quality BAK-4 prisms and multi-coated optics for enhanced contrast. Celestron has designed and engineered the larger SkyMaster models to meet the special demands of extended astronomical or terrestrial viewing sessions. The 15x70 version is one of the most popular models in the series. It offers serious large aperture light gathering in an affordable and reasonably lightweight configuration.

  • Multi-coated optics
  • Large aperture perfect for low light conditions and stargazing
  • Tripod adapter
  • 13 mm (0.51 in) long eye relief ideal for eyeglass wearers

Newtonian Reflector Telescope

I can see in the sky with a 114 mm reflector Meade?

I have a Meade 114 mm Newtonian reflector telescope, and I have just gotten interested in astronomy. This is my telescope: http://www.opticsplanet.net/meade-114eq-ast-model-45-f-88-equatorial-telescope-04056.html. I have curiosity about what might be able to do with him. I'm not ready to buy a CCD camera, I just want to know what astronomical objects that might be able to do with him.

http://www.stellarium.org/ This free program is a great site that can be downloaded. This is an interactive sky map. Just know where you are and tell you what you see ... and where to look. Among other areas, I have some Nexstar 114 GT and I can see much better if I get better eye on it from what came with it. I'd suggest you join a club local astronomy Astronomical Society. You will be able to join them in their star parties and help you get the most out of their scope, more than help show you where and what to see in your skies. They are very nice people and get a lot of your membership. I promise. Do not try to learn everything at time. Patience is the key to Astronomy. I try to learn something new every time I go. In this way I keep what I learned from night to night. If you try to learn everything once, get overwhelmed and forget everything and then become frustrated and leave everything behind. Do not let that happen. Stick with it and be patient.

Orion SpaceProbe 3 Altazimuth Reflector Telescope Orion SpaceProbe 3 Altazimuth Reflector Telescope

Sale Price: $99.99

Description

If you're looking for an affordable entry-level telescope for that beginning astronomy enthusiast, our SpaceProbe 3 Altaz is the perfect choice. Great for all-around stargazing, this highly portable, uncomplicated scope is just the right size and weight for the entire family, and just the right price for parents. This is a quality telescope, with a 3" (76mm) glass primary mirror mounted in a sturdy Neptune Blue Metallic aluminum tube. The rack-and-pinion focuser accepts standard 1.25" eyepieces. Two Explorer II eyepieces, a low-power 25mm (28x) and a high-power 10mm (70x), are included. An EZ Finder II finder scope mounted on the tube helps zero-in on the sky target. The altazimuth mount is lightweight and easy to use. To aim it, simply move it up or down or left or right. An adjustable, aluminum tripod with accessory tray is also included. One-year limited warranty.

Orion's surprising little Spaceprobe 3 has been picked by independent reviewers as one of the best telescopes in its price class. Unlike similar telescopes seen in discount stores, Orion has refined the Spaceprobe 3 by paying attention to the little details, and that make this telescope a great value. The Spaceprobe 3 comes with an unusually complete set of accessories. The package includes two very good Explorer II eyepieces (25mm and 10mm), an adjustable altazimuth tripod, a good red-dot finder, a student edition of "The Sky" planetarium program, and a well written manual. The package even includes the tools you'll need to assemble the telescope and align the optics. The Spaceprobe 3 is a Newtonian reflector. That means it uses mirrors instead of lenses. Newtonians are primarily used for astronomy because the images are upside-down. Orion includes a collimation tool and good directions for aligning the mirrors. The reward for aligning the mirrors is seen in images that snap into sharp focus. My Spaceprobe 3 arrived properly aligned right out of the box. With its Explorer II eyepieces, this telescope consistently delivers fine views. Using the 25mm eyepiece (28x magnification) the Pleiades cluster is simply wonderful, showing dozens of stars. From a rural location with a dark sky, the Orion Nebula is a big ghostly glow, and when I zoom in with the 10mm eyepiece, the Trapezium resolves into four tiny pinpoints. The double star Gamma Andromeda becomes two beads of light, one gold, the other one pale blue. Moon and planet images are crisp, with none of the false color I see in low cost refractors. When I look at the Moon I see mountains and terraced walls inside the larger craters. With the 10mm eyepiece (about 70x), Saturn's rings are sharply separated from the planet, and I can even pick out the planet's shadow on the rings. The Altazimuth mount included with this telescope is light and easy to use; it may be the best choice for a young astronomer. If you want motorized tracking of the stars and planets, Orion's Spaceprobe 3 EQ is available with an equatorial mount, and Celestron sells essentially the same optical system with the computerized NexStar 76GT. -Jeff Phillips Pros: Best in class optical performance Two good Explorer II eyepieces Complete accessory package Cons: Small 76mm aperture Upside-down terrestrial images

Features

  • A fantastic beginner telescope that's lightweight.
  • 76mm aperture reflector telescope is large enough for wonderful views of the Moon.
  • The included EZ Finder II makes finding celestial objects a breeze.
  • Includes two 1.25" telescope eyepieces, EZ Finder II reflex sight, smooth rack and pinion focuser.

Telescope SkyQuest XT6 Classic?

This http://www.telescope.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=238462&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=4&iSubCat=9&iProductID=238462 Telescope recently caught my attention, and after reading many comments that he can do, I'm thinking of handing out $ 300.00 or so and buy it. Binoculars simply not do it for me. I read that I'll be able to see the craters of the moon in detail with this baby, and a detailed look at Jupiter, Saturn and other planets and nebulae. Do you think this is true? Will I be able to actually see this a lot with this? Or is it just a scam. I guess mentally I can not imagine the possibility of see the same planet through a telescope. It seems far-fetched, but if I'll actually be able to, then I really want this haha.

I have IntelliScope version of this magnitude (with locator computer) but either way this is a wonderful area, and I recommend it! You will be absolutely amazed at what you'll be able to see. The Moon is rich in detail. Jupiter will show its four bright moons cloud belts, and after the eye becomes more experience, you should be able to see the Great Red Spot (which is really more of a pink salmon at present). Saturn's rings and moons brightest to be easily visible. Venus show phases, and you should be able to see the polar cap of Mars as autumn approaches. Hundreds of double stars and deep sky objects will be visible, but getting a good book, as Phil Harrington's Star Watch (Wiley) to help find them.

What are the differences and similarities between a refractor and reflector telescope?

1.) Both use the same kind of eye. 2.) Both use the same type of hubs. 3.) Both require stable supports. guidance mechanisms are evailable management team for either type telescope. 4.) Both are available in a variety of sizes, with reflectors that dominates the field above "apperatures with a diameter of six inches. 5.) Very Large Telescope, can only built reflector model designs and manufacturing techniques. The construction of appropriate lenses for refracting telescopes over 6 inches in diameter, becomes very expensive. In sizes 10 inches in diameter, their costs are prohibitive.

Description

The Hand of God combines inspiration for the mind and spirit by juxtaposing what Astronomy magazine has called “the most beautiful astrophotos ever taken” with illuminating words of scientists, poets, and theologians. Introduced by an essay from award-winning science writer Sharon Begley, this revised edition includes more than sixty new images and creates for the reader an unforgettable experience of the wonder of the universe. It was once believed that to look into the heavens was to look into the face of God. The first Hubble telescope images from space, which appeared in 1990, confirmed that sentiment in ways that are beyond imagination. These eerily luminous landscapes, splendid with color and motion, gave us a glimpse into the outermost reaches of the universe—a vast, unexplored realm where spiraling galaxies cartwheeled, nebulae shimmered, and stars were born. Dark clouds parted like gauzy curtains and allowed us to peer directly into the heart of a mystery. Since that time, more images have been captured on film that are simultaneously wondrous and troubling, restoring to our lives that very mystery that seems to be part of the human experience. Throughout history, scientists and theologians, artists and writers, poets, and philosophers have struggled eloquently to make sense of the universe and God’s part in it. Together the images in The Hand of God and the accompanying reflections encourage a sense of awe and, perhaps, purpose in an age hostile to both. “We cannot take a single step toward heaven,” French mystic Simone Weil once said. “If, however, we look heavenward for a long time, God comes and takes us up.” Perhaps it is time to look up once again.

Description

Choosing and Using the New CAT will supersede the author’s successful Choosing and Using a Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope, which has enjoyed enthusiastic support from the amateur astronomy community for the past seven years. Since the first book was published, a lot has changed in the technology of amateur astronomy. The sophistication and variety of the telescopes available to amateurs has increased dramatically. Computerized SCTs, Maksutov-Cassegrains, and most recently Meade’s new and acclaimed Ritchey-Chrétiens have come to dominate the market. That means that all amateurs considering the purchase of a new telescope (not only a SCT, and not just beginners) will benefit from this detailed guide. Choosing the right telescope for particular kinds of observation (or even for general work) is far from easy – but Rod Mollise gives invaluable advice and guidance.
