The container of a terrarium does not have to be a glass jar. It can be any of a thousand creative ideas. Using a unique container will transform your average terrarium into something unique and a conversation piece for friends to see and enjoy. Here are some ideas creative containers you can use.
There are two basic types of terrariums and knowing these guys will help you choose a container. The first type is an open type. It can be considered very similar to a potted plant. The difference is that you have more than one plant in it. This variety of plants makes it a small system.
Open Air Terrariums
Making this kind of terrarium gives you many options and just about everything that hold soil can be used for this type. Some very suitable containers include garden ornaments, statues, pottery, ceramic bowls, coffee mugs, wine bottles and cups of fish. You can take almost any three-dimensional object, hollow out whether you have a deposit on soil and plants or you can drill large holes in it to hold the soil.
But I recommend you take this creative terrarium making to another level and tie in something that interests you, as a hobby. I love astronomy and telescopes, so I took a telescope antique brass and cut a large slot on top of it. I put soil in it and planted flowers. I mounted on a small tripod and now I have a terrarium very also says something special about me. If you have a hobby or a profession that likes to do if you look at the materials and elements used in the hobby and see if you can turn some of them in a terrarium.
Closed terrariums
This type is most difficult but also may be the most dramatic because it is providing all the materials in an airtight container. The terrarium is most commonly seen of this type is found in a jar gallon or two liters plastic bottle.

Almost any clear container can be used as a closed terrarium and I used gallon jugs with great success. One of my favorites is one I did with a bottle of Tabasco. It is very small but it was fun to make and is very fun to watch. Other suitable containers include uniquely shaped foods and bottled drinks, bottled spices, biscuits jars and bottles of wine. If you are ambitious and want a challenge you could use a water jug five gallon - the kind that goes on top of a water cooler style. This makes wonderful terrariums because of its size, but can be a real challenge because you have to do everything through a small opening at the top.
Once to start thinking about terrarium containers going to see the great in the house, garage sales, and in stores. Suddenly the things you never considered would become great opportunities for a terrarium that is unique and beautiful.
