Fabio Bortoli captured this photo of Western Veil Nebula, also known as NGC 6960 from Bogli, Italy on July 30th, 2011.

Western Veil is a bright emission and/or reflection nebula located in the constellation Cygnus. The Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) estimated its distance to be around 1,470 light-years.

Wondering how Fabio got this photo? Fabio also provided us with the equipment specs he implemented.

“I tried many times to realize a nice shot, but only the good sky condition during night of July 30th allowed to gather enough signal to reveal all the faint and complex filaments of NGC 6960.

I used a modified Canon 350D attached to Televue NP101is refractor, on top of a german equatorial mount.

I merged 12 shots with 5 min exposition @ ISO1600.”
