Celestron 21061 Telescope On Sale
I cannot see anything with a new telescope?
I bought a telescope AstroMaster 70 EQ. When I looked through the 20mm eyepiece, I couldn't see anything, just black and white thing. This is my very first time using a telescope, what do I have to do in order to see?
Thank you for your time
A good rule to follow, which applies equally to beginners and experienced users, is never use a scope for the first time in the dark. Get used to it in your living room, then outside during the day. (Not on the sun, of course.)
You should look at a distant terrestrial (earth) object, first through the finder if the scope has one, then through the 20mm. Experiment with the focusser to find how to focus the image. Then do the same onan object a different distance away. This will help you not just to get used to the focusser, but also to find which way you turn it to focus on more distant objects.
Then at night, begin with the most obvious target, the moon. Find it in the scope and focus. This is easiest to do when it isn't full moon, because you have sharper edges and more shadows when its haf-full or less, but you can still do it if you're careful.
To look at stars (which are not really interesting unless they're multiples) and planets, you have to be sure your finder scope and main tube are aligned. Again, centre an obvious object like the top of a power pole in the main scope, and adjust the finder until the object 's in the centre of the finder. That way, when you look at a star or planet in the centre of the wide-field finder, you should then see it in the main scope as well.
Make sure you have realistic expectations. When focussed properly, stars will be tiny points. Most planets will be very small discs.
It takes a while not so much to learn how to work a scope, but how to actualy observe and see things that you didn't see before.
